In the morning, guests are picked up from select hotels in Valparaíso or Viña del Mar. They will meet their local guide, board a comfortable air-conditioned van, and embark on a 4-hour tour of Valparaíso, renowned as one of the most fascinating cities in South America. This is due to its charming multi-colored houses and narrow streets, which have earned it a UNESCO World Heritage Site designation.
The first stop is at Cerro Florida to admire La Sebastiana, the residence of Nobel Prize for Literature laureate, Pablo Neruda (admission not included). The tour continues along a scenic route through the hills, offering views of the city and the ocean, before ascending to Cerro Concepción. Here, guests can stroll through the famous Paseo Atkinson and Gervasoni while the guide shares stories about the immigrants who arrived in Valparaíso during its golden era, prior to the opening of the Panama Canal, when it was the main port in South America.
Next, the tour descends to Muelle Prat to visit Plaza Sotomayor, one of Valparaíso’s principal squares. These squares feature some of the city’s most traditional landmarks, including the Old Aduana (customs house), now part of the Chilean army’s naval zone; the monument to Arturo Prat, a national hero of the Pacific War; and other French-style buildings from the seventeenth century.
The tour concludes with a funicular ride to Paseo 21 de Mayo for a breathtaking view of the port. The final stop is Cerro Playa Ancha to visit the Merchant Marine viewpoint, with its magnificent amphitheater overlooking the Pacific, before guests are returned to selected hotels in Valparaíso or Viña del Mar.
