- Chelva - Travel back in time while exploring one of Spain’s most picturesque white towns, celebrated for its timeless beauty and genuine Andalusian charm. This village is renowned for the Ruta de los Lavaderos—a scenic path featuring historic stone washhouses and fountains once used by locals for laundry, providing insight into traditional village life.
Enjoy a refreshing drink in the lively main Plaza.
- Acueducto de la Pena Cortada - After the drink, the journey continues from Chelva towards the Roman aqueduct, passing through olive groves and offering fantastic views back at the town.
Depending on the season, almond trees may be in bloom, and during the breeding season, deer can also be spotted.
The 2000-year-old aqueduct is awe-inspiring, and the tunnels carved out of rocks are sure to impress. Finally, the descent through a beautiful ravine leads back to the village in Chelva where the journey began. The entire walk covers about 10 miles, or 16 km.

A wonderful chance to experience the real Valencia - I have been on this and many other hikes run by Howard from the Valencia Excursions Club and can honestly say I've loved them all. I was lucky enough to have this group recommended to me when I first moved to live in Valencia and I still go out with them as often as I can. I love that the hikes are a chance to meet new people and are not just a frog march. They start with a coffee and tostada in a small village and finish with a well earned drink at the end. These hikes are for me the perfect balance of social, history, exercise and discovering small villages and beautiful countryside and coastal trails that I would otherwise never know about. I can recommend them wholeheartedly.

A wonder of hiking - I have done many hikes with Excursions of Valencia, and the Water Route is the best. I've done it three times. Howard is a professional and relaxed leader, and we always have a good time!

Great hiking trips with interesting people from different countries who share experiences about life in Valencia. - Great trip with a wonderful guide who caters for all levels of hiking abilities and makes sure that everyone has a good experience. It is also a social event where one can meet others with similar interests and exchange information about life in Valencia.

A Magical Time - Howard was very kind and full of knowledge of this area. He looked after us all and paced the walk to suit our needs. The town Chelva was fun to walk around and Howard ensured we had a nice lunch.
He is a great guide!

Wonderful Hike - A beautifully scenic hike with lots of variety. It was a bit scary to cross the aqueduct but also a bit of a thrill. It’s not really dangerous as it’s as it’s wider than a sidewalk, but still unnerving. Howard was a great guide, providing lots of information about the history of the area as well as being good fun to hangout with. The swimming hole along the Ruta de Agua was an idyllic little place to jump in and cool off for a bit.

Fantastic hike - This hike was amazing. The scenery was great and walking through Chelva was like stepping back in time. Our guide, Howard, was a wealth of knowledge and so fun to talk to. You do need to really be prepared to hike - I think it was about 9 miles! Would absolutely book a tour with them again.

ADVISABLE ROUTES - The two routes are highly recommended to do it with the children, so that they can enjoy the spectacular views and places that are located along the way.
It is impressive to see the Roman Aqueduct and observe the carving made in the living rock of the place for this purpose.

A Sunday with Nature and History - I have been on a handful of hikes with Howard and this one is special. It is a perfect blend of history, nature, waterfalls/streams for summer and includes walking through Chelva, a beautiful town.
The aqueduct has survived close to 20 centuries and the fact that you can literally walk on it is amazing. The tunnels cut through the rocks are fascinating and takes my respectg for the historic humans to another level.
I doubt if the trip would have been the same if it wasn't for Howard, who is very knowledgeable, friendly and organised.
A big thumbs up from me!

Amazing Spanish Aqueduct experience - Howard, our guide, was absolutely amazing. What an unforgettable day hiking to a 2000-year-old Aqueduct.
