Very authentic and lovingly organized- Pre-Columbian Chocolate Tour in Uvita - Ronald's tour is wonderfully organized and highly recommended. He showed us how to make cocoa, from beans to hot chocolate with milk. His farm is very nicely located in the mountains. Ronald studied agriculture and was heavily involved in the history of the cocoa plant. You can tell with his program. It's very profound and interesting. Of course, in the end we made cocoa ourselves and enjoyed it in hot milk. The culinary highlight was the chocolate with banana. Unbelievably delicious.
We really enjoyed the tour. Even the children (9,14) were after initial complaining, totally enthusiastic.

Do not miss the cacao tour with Ronald - If youāre in Uvita, donāt miss Ronaldās cacao tour! This hands-on experience in chocolate making was fantastic. Ronald, a knowledgeable host, guides you through cacaoās world, covering everything from tree species to harvesting.
The interactive tour lets you roast, peel, and grind cacao beans to create your own chocolate. My teenagers (16 and 11) both enjoyed it and gained a new appreciation for chocolate.
A highlight was the cacao facial, which left my skin glowing. Refreshing smoothies are also available. We tasted the product of our labour: a delicious chocolate paste turned into a hot chocolate and an amazing dip.
Ronaldās passion for cacao and sustainability makes this tour a great way to connect with Costa Rican traditions.
Final Verdict: 5/5 ā Highly recommended

A Must Do Experience - As lovers of all things chocolate, this tour was one of the highlights of our Costa Rica adventure. Ronald, owner of the plantation and host for the tour, has an obvious passion for his work and works diligently to both educate and entertain his guests through all fazes of chocolate production. After Ronald talked a bit about the history of cocoa, we watched as he opened a cocoa pod and had us taste the pulp and the raw beans. They had a citrusy taste. He then led us on a walk through his demonstration plantation where we had the opportunity to see cocoa pods growing on the plants. Returning to his cocoa hut, we then shucked cocoa beans, roasted them and tasted them. After roasting the beans tasted like cocoa, bitter cocoa, not Hershey bar sweet. We then took turns working the beans to convert them into an oily paste. I think he said that the beans in their natural state are about 45 percent oil. He then had us taste the oil again, first plain and then spread on a banana to experience the difference between the bitter taste of the cocoa and the sweetened taste benefiting from the sugars in the banana. He also demonstrated the use of the cocoa paste as a face mask and delighted one of the participants with what she described as a perfect facial massage. Ronaldās encore performance was preparing a cup of hot cocoa for each of us using the paste we had helped to make. He had us drink it plain and then drink some in conjunctions with eating a banana to again experience the bitter vs. sweet. Overall, this was a fascinating tour that makes an ideal way to spend a fun afternoon in the shade.

For chocoholics and those simply curious - In a high-roofed and creatively set up structure built by hand with native vegetation and local wood, Ronald introduces you to the history of cacao and invites you on the flavor journey of turning a raw cocoa bean into chocolate.
The tour is well organized and informative; the host is personable and thoughtful.
In the end Ronald offers you cacao goodies to bring home, an opportunity to remember and enjoy the experience. Highly recommended, and donāt forget to order a fresh-made fruit smoothie!

Wonderful Chocolate Tour! - Our family loved Ronald's chocolate tour. He was full of knowledge about chocolate, agricultural and cultural history, and jungle wild life. He made the tour engaging and accessible for us grown ups and our 13 year old daughter. We really liked getting to taste all the stages of the cocoa process, and the hands on experience. Bring cash for the delicious fresh prepared smoothie refreshments and chocolate to take home.

Amazing experience, hands-on and interactive tour - This was an amazing experience! Ronald was such a passionate and friendly guide (owner), we enjoyed talking about the history of chocolate/cocoa and all the process of producing chocolate. Our kids (and not only them :) loved the hands-on learning about the cocoa nad chocolate, tasting of each phase of the production and making a chocolate drink step by step. My daughter enjoyed also chocolate face massage and we spent beautiful 3 hours full of information and fun. Even in tropical heavy rain it was so worth it! We even bought nice souvenirs - no tourist trap - just pure and authentic products.
Don't hesitate to buy smoothie full of local fruits made by Ronald's wife - it was truly the best smoothie we had here in Costa Rica (specially the one made of bananas and their chocolate). Thanks for such a great time!
