• Cajun Encounters Tour Company - The Honey Island Swamp (French: Marais de l’Île-de-Miel) is a marshland situated in the eastern region of Louisiana, USA, within St. Tammany Parish. The swamp’s name originates from the honeybees that were once observed on a nearby island. It is bordered to the north by U.S. 11, to the south by Lake Borgne, to the east by the Pearl River, and to the west by the West Pearl River.

This swamp is one of the least disturbed river swamps in the United States. Many regard it as one of the most pristine swampland habitats in the country. The Honey Island Swamp spans over 20 miles (30 km) in length and nearly 7 miles (10 km) in width, with 34,896 of its 70,000 acres (280 km²) designated as a permanently protected wildlife area by the government. The swamp is home to a variety of wildlife, including alligators, raccoons, owls, wild boars, nutria, snakes, turtles, bald eagles, and black bears.
