Unforgettable Experience with Llamas and Incredible Hosts - Our half-day hike with Llama Pack was one of the most meaningful and memorable experiences of our time in Peru. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and care. We began by learning about the Llama Pack Project’s mission and the vital work they’re doing to support sustainable tourism and local communities—it was both inspiring and educational. Meeting and greeting the llamas was a joy, especially for our young child who absolutely loves animals. The trek itself was beautiful, with stunning views throughout, and the pace was just right for our group. We have mixed physical abilities, and the hosts were incredibly attentive, making sure everyone felt comfortable and supported every step of the way. One of the unexpected highlights was the delicious homemade food served during the hike. It felt personal and thoughtful, and we truly appreciated the effort put into every detail of the experience. This is more than just a hike—it's a cultural, educational, and family-friendly adventure that we’d highly recommend to anyone visiting the Sacred Valley.

Family llama trek - This was a special experience (my youngest son’s favorite). The family was very kind and offered a great education on the importance of llamas/alpacas in their daily life. They also had an informative and interesting presentation on instruments used by the indigenous Andean population as well as some nice and affordable handicrafts.

Unique experience with llamas in the mountains - A unique experience where you learn about the importance to the community and the natural ones of keeping the llamas as animals of burden while enjoying a nice walk with the llamas and beautiful landscapes ending with a typical meal

Nice activity - Nice half-day activity. The walk is actually very short, you get to the destination rather quickly, so suitable for everyone. The llamas are super nice and you are accompanied by two locals plus one person in charge of the project. They prepare an oven where potatoes and vegetables are cooked and then eaten nicely at the point of arrival. When we went it rained, but the rain did not disturb, as at the top they placed a tent. The local lady at one point prepares a small market with things to buy, of course you feel a bit obliged. I got some cute cloth bracelets for little money.

Have a wonderful time with local people and llamas - We had a lovely day walking with llamas. The walk was not too long, though the altitude made it quite long enough! The llamas were funny and cute and interesting, and we learned a lot about this project. This group is working on breeding bigger llamas that can be used as pack animals, similar to how they were in the past. They also work with the local community to help indigenous women find work in the tourism industry. The women that walked down from their village to help us were amazing. They must be the fittest people in the world- 2 or 3 hours walk to come to work every time they do this. They were friendly and sweet and made us a lovely lunch. We helped a bit with loading the llamas and helping them keep going, but the ladies did all the real work. Sofia was an amazing leader and we really enjoyed her company. I would highly recommend this trip. (We did the half day.) I was really fun, quite different from anything else we did, and it is really a good way to support the local ecology and community.

Better than Machu Picchu - What a fantastic experience! We did the half-day trek and loved it. The scenery is stunning, the llamas are endlessly entertaining and our guide, Alvaro, was a terrific companion and conversationalist. I am not being hyperbolic when I say I enjoyed it more than Machu Picchu. How often can you have this much fun while also supporting a worthy community initiative?  Regarding the hike: I am 65 years old and in reasonably good shape, and had spent a week acclimating to the altitude. I found the hike demanding but very doable. The website describes it as "easy to moderate"; I would definitely lean towards moderate, as I was quite tired and winded (but happy!) when we reached the top.

Magical experience for a good cause - Run to book this experience!! A little about this project- they work with local Andean communities not only to restore the llama population, but to also provide sustainable tourism that these communities get to benefit from. Learning about the mission was interesting - the way the project had to gain trust with the communities, to the empowerment of women. The experience itself was also very special and magical. We did a half day trek which consisted of hiking (relatively easy/moderate) with llamas and then a special traditional lunch cooked by our Andean guides. Shoutout to Sofia, our interpreter, who was passionate about the mission and a pleasure to spend time with. Highly recommend!

Extraordinary experience - Part of the program of our group trip was a visit to the Llama Pack Project. The Llama Pack project is working to restore the traditional use and breeding of pack llamas instead of donkeys, as llamas have less impact on nature. We took a short hike (1.5 km) with the project manager, some locals and the animals. Since you are at an altitude of 3,800 m, and the path - even if only 100 meters in altitude - leads uphill, a certain physical physique is advantageous. The highlight was a meal prepared in an earth oven.
