Well worth it. A great cause. - Really unique experience. Our kids age 12 and 14 loved it. Llamas, a scenic hike, (like 40 min, but we were acclimatized. They won't leave you behind however and the llamas can be SLOW) a meal, high andean quechua info and culture. Our guide was Alvaro. Well spoken and loved meeting him. This great dude speaks English, Spanish and quechua. If you have seen enough museos and ruins this is for you. My kids thought it was a better day than machu picchu.

Awesome Experience - This activity was by the far the most memorable during our stay in the Sacred Valley. Our guide, Alvaro, was so great and passionate about the Llama Pack project which strives to promote the use of llamas in the Andean communities. We had the honor to get to know ow the beautiful people of one of the Andean communities. When we got to the top of the mountain, they cooked potatoes and veggies in a stone oven on the ground. Such an amazing experience! They also had bread, cookies, and coca tea to share. This is an activity that I would highly recommend to all families, especially families traveling with children. We had such a great time! Thank you Llama Pack Project!

Excellent trek with Llama Pack project - The office arranged transport from our hotel to their base. We left our luggage there whilst we trekked.
Our guide was Alberto -?nor sure I have his name right, was excellent. Such a nice man with perfect English. Two ladies from one of the mountain communities accompanied us, along with 24 llamas. The guide told us all about the project, the llamas, the mountain communities and himself. He was very interesting. We walked for about 45-60 minutes, a lot was uphill and we took walking poles. We had plenty of breaks. You probably need to be in the Sacred Valley for a few days to let your body acclimatise. We took Diamox and were fine. We arrived at a little shelter and the two girls made lunch. They cooked several types of potatoes, fava beans and corn in the rocks which had been heated up by the fire. Very interesting to watch them do it. The walk down was much easier and quicker. We really enjoyed our time with the llama pack project and would definitely recommend it.

Unforgettable Experience with Llamas and Incredible Hosts - Our half-day hike with Llama Pack was one of the most meaningful and memorable experiences of our time in Peru. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and care. We began by learning about the Llama Pack Project’s mission and the vital work they’re doing to support sustainable tourism and local communities—it was both inspiring and educational.
Meeting and greeting the llamas was a joy, especially for our young child who absolutely loves animals. The trek itself was beautiful, with stunning views throughout, and the pace was just right for our group. We have mixed physical abilities, and the hosts were incredibly attentive, making sure everyone felt comfortable and supported every step of the way.
One of the unexpected highlights was the delicious homemade food served during the hike. It felt personal and thoughtful, and we truly appreciated the effort put into every detail of the experience.
This is more than just a hike—it's a cultural, educational, and family-friendly adventure that we’d highly recommend to anyone visiting the Sacred Valley.

Perfect Andean Half Day for Family - Delightful experience! The hike was very manageable, the guide was excellent and the program (eco and community sustainable) is a pleasure to support.

Family llama trek - This was a special experience (my youngest son’s favorite). The family was very kind and offered a great education on the importance of llamas/alpacas in their daily life. They also had an informative and interesting presentation on instruments used by the indigenous Andean population as well as some nice and affordable handicrafts.

Unique experience with llamas in the mountains - A unique experience where you learn about the importance to the community and the natural ones of keeping the llamas as animals of burden while enjoying a nice walk with the llamas and beautiful landscapes ending with a typical meal

Extraordinary experience - Part of the program of our group trip was a visit to the Llama Pack Project.
The Llama Pack project is working to restore the traditional use and breeding of pack llamas instead of donkeys, as llamas have less impact on nature. We took a short hike (1.5 km) with the project manager, some locals and the animals. Since you are at an altitude of 3,800 m, and the path - even if only 100 meters in altitude - leads uphill, a certain physical physique is advantageous. The highlight was a meal prepared in an earth oven.

- I joined the Llama Pack Project hoping to support sustainable, community-based tourism, but the experience was deeply disappointing and overpriced.
First of all, the price was extremely high for what was offered: short walks, basic organization, and poor customer service. What bothered me most is that the project markets itself as socially and environmentally impactful, but in my experience, profits from a narrative of helping locals without ensuring real, equitable participation.
As a Latin American traveler, I felt a strong disconnect between what is shown to foreign tourists, NGOs, and social media — and what actually happens. The structure is hierarchical, paternalistic, and far from truly community-driven, and it’s questionable how much the local families actually benefit from it.
It’s frustrating to see well-intentioned travelers —like myself— being drawn into projects like this without knowing what’s really going on behind the scenes. If you truly want to support the people of the Sacred Valley, I recommend looking for initiatives directly led and managed by local communities, not outsiders profiting from them.
I tried to get some answers with them but they stop answering my texts 'cause they also charged me $70 per poor transportation.
