This modern and luxurious sailing vessel is well-appointed with plenty of shaded seating areas and wide, flat decks — perfectly suited for up to 24 passengers. This long-running and award-winning whale watching tour heads out to Platypus Bay, situated on the western side of K’gari (Fraser Island.) Marine life abounds in the region, from the little-known Australian humpback dolphins to the well-known humpback whales that visit during the winter months. Throughout the day you will be offered the opportunity to see the whales, including from an immersive platform. An informative talk is given by your skipper, who shares more than 30 years of experience working with marine mammals. Your guide’s knowledge and passion of the animals and the marine environment ensures a unique experience. Reference material is also available along with a hydrophone on board to hear the migratory mammals underwater. An intimate day tour for those who want to be one of the few not the many.

This seasonal whale watching tour takes you aboard a 24-passenger sailing catamaran from Hervey Bay to Platypus Bay at K’gari (Fraser Island).
Limited guests allows for a truly intimate tour with one on one conversations to hear about these majestic animals. An immersive platform lets you observe a humpback whale underwater while you listen to the male humpback whale sing by hydrophone. Morning and afternoon tea are served along with a buffet lunch and beverage during the full-day tour.
- Children must be accompanied by an adult (best suited to children 8 years and older)
- Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten Free options are available, please advise at time of booking if required
- Minimum numbers apply. There is a possibility of cancellation after confirmation if there are not enough passengers to meet requirements. In the event of this occurring, you will be offered an alternative or full refund.

All round memorable day. - What an absolute brilliant experience we had. Small boat, small crowd makes it great. We were very well looked after by Peter and Cassie and the morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea were excellent. The up close encounters we had with the whales was absolutely excellent. Breaching, tail slapping, fin slapping and singing was epic. To get down at water level with them was unbelieveable. Thanks guys for a VERY memorable day.

Premium Whale Experience - Premium Whale Encounters
When I visit the Fraser Coast I always spend multiple days on Blue Dolphin Tours.
It's a high quality experience without crowds and jostling. A pleasant experience that allows you to meet and interact with other visitors if you want and private spaces if you need time alone with the whales. Tours are always done with consideration of the whales in mind. The catering provided is top notch and the hosts are exceptionally helpful and well informed.. Highly recommended and you will have a great time and carry the best memories. Thank you Captain Pete, Jodie, Cassie, Silvie and Sarah for a great 2025 season.

DID NOT DISAPPOINT! We will be back - Best and most beautiful experience of my life. Third year whale watching, but this by far was beyond anything I could ever hope for. Staff were friendly, helpful and just made the experience that much better. Peter and Silky answered any questions asked and shared lots of interesting information about the whales.
The whales were surrounding the boat, very curious and boy did they put on a show. We are already planning our next trip with this team. We also went and visited Reef world during our stay and fed their huge turtles. Loving little town. Highly recommend to everyone. You will not regret! Life time experience and one that will always remember.

So many whales! - We had a fab day whale watching - the weather wasn’t all that great but we had lots of fun - so many whales, we didn’t know where to look! Thank you Blue Dolphin Marine Tours for another great trip - see you next year!

Whales galore 🐋 - We had already done a tour with another company days before, but the weather and lack of whale action drew us to book this tour and we are SO very glad we did. Peter and his staff were brilliant, the weather was brilliant and the whales were OUTSTANDING 😁 I've dreamt of a close up encounter with whales for many years, I took so many photos I even flattened my battery! Thanks everyone for a very memorable day 🐋😁

Absolutely brilliant. - What an amazing day. Organisation and communication before the trip was excellent. Thank you gmfor picking us up directly from our property and storing all our luggage whilst we went out and had the most amazing trip. We were catered for really well with frequent food and drinks. Because the Blue Dolphin caters for small groups the whole experience felt very personal. The real highlight was getting to see so many Humpbacks. Moving, amazing and the crew were very well informed. We came away having learnt lots and an unforgettable day.
