Volcano Hiking (Sabinyo, Gahinga, Muhabura) and Transfer to Bwindi National Park
Mount Sabinyo - Begin your day with a short drive to the base of Mountain Sabinyo and hike to the top, a Virunga Volcano accessible only from the park. Rising to 3,645 meters (11,959 ft), it marks the intersection of the borders of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Rwanda, and Uganda. The slopes of Mt. Sabinyo are home to the critically endangered mountain gorillas. The hike to the top and back is a one-day experience, typically involving 4 hours of climbing and another 4 hours descending, depending on pace and weather conditions. Walking sticks are provided for free, and porters are available for hire. You will pass through vegetation ranging from the bamboo zone between 2400 – 2800m. After reaching the park, take a rest and enjoy your packed lunch. Begin your descent and transfer to Bwindi National Park.
Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi National Park
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - After breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters to be assigned a Gorilla family for trekking. Park staff will provide a full briefing on the Dos and Don’ts while with the gorillas. You will then be driven to the starting point of your allocated gorilla family to begin your trek into the beautiful Impenetrable Bwindi Forest. This trek may take between 30 minutes to three-quarters of the day, depending on the location of the Mountain Gorillas. Note that gorilla trekking can be strenuous, requiring a certain level of fitness. Once you find the gorillas, you will have one hour to observe and photograph them. Although this time may seem short, the experience is truly rewarding. Afterward, return to the park headquarters to receive a certificate recognizing your contribution to the conservation of these endangered gorillas.
Transfer from Bwindi to Queen Elizabeth National Park via the Ishasha Sector
Queen Elizabeth National Park - Enjoy scenic views along the way and arrive in time for an evening game drive where you can spot various wildlife species.
Kasenyi Game Drive & Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise
Queen Elizabeth National Park - Begin the action-packed fourth day with an early morning breakfast at the lodge. Located in the vast savannahs of the Albertine Rift, the Kasenyi plains promise a morning full of adventure! Expect to encounter lions, herds of buffalos, elephants, Uganda Kobs, Topi, and bushbucks. While spotting the ‘big five’ in the park is not guaranteed, on a lucky day, you may see leopards, making it the ‘big four.’ Return to the lodge for lunch.
Kazinga Channel - After lunch, join the Kazinga Channel boat cruise for an afternoon of wildlife viewing. Spot crocodiles, buffaloes, elephants, and a wide range of bird species on the channel waters.
Chimpanzee Trekking at Kalinzu and Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
Kalinzu Central Forest Reserve - After an early morning breakfast, drive to the Kalinzu Forest to experience tracking chimpanzees in their forest home. Visitors to Kalinzu Forest have more than a 50% chance of encountering these creatures. Kalinzu Forest is not only a haven for chimpanzees but also home to 6 more species of primates. If you’re lucky, you might encounter other colobus monkeys, olive baboons, and red-tailed monkeys during the Kalinzu trek. Later, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for evening relaxation and an overnight stay.
Canoeing, Zip Lining, and Community Hikes
Lake Bunyonyi - Make the most of your day at Lake Bunyonyi, one of Africa’s deepest and most beautiful inland water bodies, offering refreshing experiences such as dugout canoeing, hiking the Kakoko Hill, and zip lining at the Supreme Adventures Park.
Transfer to Kigali, Visit the Genocide Memorial
Kigali Genocide Memorial - After a relaxed morning breakfast at your lodge, embark on the drive to Kigali city – Rwanda’s capital. Enjoy the views of the surrounding areas. Visit the Rwanda Genocide Memorial Center to see the names and remains of thousands who perished in the 1994 Rwanda genocide. Have lunch at any hotel in Kigali, and the driver will drop you at either a hotel or lodge. This marks the end of your 9-day Uganda – Rwanda tour.
