The collection is housed in the original former Udaipur State Motor Garage, a splendid setting for such a fine array of vehicles. The collection was unveiled to the public on 15 February 2000 by Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, founder of the National Motor Museum in England. The grand old beauties are in perfect running condition! Rolls Royce, Mercedes, Cadillac, MG: all lined up for admiration. The museum houses 22 splendid vehicles, including the beautiful 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom used in the Bond film Octopussy, and the Cadillac convertible that transported Queen Elizabeth II to the airport in 1961. All of it, still belonging to the Royal House of Udaipur, is likely the only one of its kind in India. An original Burma Shell petrol pump, still operational, adds a quaint touch of nostalgia and authenticity to the car collection.
• Sahelion Ki Bari - Translated as “the garden of the maidens,” Saheliyon ki Bari is located in the northern part of the city and is one of the few historical gardens in India specifically built for royal ladies and their maidens to enjoy time away from palace politics and intrigues, common in that era. Built in the 18th century by Maharana Sangram Singh II, it is one of India’s largest and most beautiful historical gardens. Enclosed with a triple defensive wall to provide privacy to the royal women, it is filled with specially designed and named fountains and kiosks, a lotus pool, and white marble elephants. The place has attracted many content creators, and several Bollywood movies have been filmed here.
