Highlights
  • Old Boma Museum - After passing the East African Community headquarters, the international conference building, and a large public hospital, you’ll find the National Natural History Museum. Known as the oldest building in the city, it was constructed by the Germans during the colonial era as a fort. Today, it serves as a government museum featuring three permanent and three temporary exhibitions:
  • Human Evolution Exhibition: This exhibit delves into the theory of evolution with replica fossils, tools, and the oldest footprints found in East Africa.
  • History of BOMA: A small exhibition that covers the city’s history from 1884 to 1919.
  • Ecology and Wildlife Photography Exhibition: While not recommended for those coming from a safari, it offers a nice explanation of Tanzania’s flora and fauna.
    Temporary exhibitions include:
  • Botanical Garden: Showcasing spices, food, decorative plants, and medicinal plants from the region.
  • Live Animals: Featuring tortoises, turtles, white mice, and more.
  • Museum Art Center.
  • The Tanzanite Experience - Tanzania is the only place on Earth where tanzanite is mined, making this gemstone rarer than diamonds. It is believed to be 1,000 times rarer due to its exclusive location. Through a guided tour, visitors learn why tanzanite is so rare and sought after, the complexities of its mining, the skills involved in cutting and polishing, and the stories and myths surrounding the gemstone. The museum also features a shop where you can find valuable and affordable gems, ranging from $100 to $3,000 and more. Tanzanite, with its glamorous violet-blue hue, is exclusively found in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Its rarity adds to its value, making it a unique and sought-after addition to any jewelry collection.
  • Arusha Clock Tower - Known as the meeting point of Arusha, the clock tower was built by Galanos, a Greek millionaire who came to Tanganyika in the early 20th century. It is believed that the Arusha Clock Tower is located exactly between Cairo and Cape Town and is considered the center point of Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda. After visiting the clock tower, we continue walking to one of the oldest hotels and schools built during the colonial era.
  • Maasai Market Curios and Crafts - A guide to the best attractions in Africa. The Maasai Market is the best place to watch and shop if you are looking for affordable, beautiful, and colorful souvenirs to take back home. It’s an open-air market with a large variety of products, including African pots and pans, different kinds of clothes like safari t-shirts, fabric clothes, and Tanzania jerseys, Maasai shoes and sandals, jewelry and necklaces, various bag sizes, Shuka/Maasai blankets, and artwork.
  • Arusha Chini - Market, local flavor, and culture. Visiting a local food market allows you to truly see the locals, including how they dress, interact, and conduct business. The majority of people in Arusha depend on local markets. This tour offers an experience of the bustling market life with our experienced guide leading the way. We will take our customers to visit two local markets located close to each other, showcasing their differences. With our experienced local guide, you will safely walk around the market, and if you wish, you can buy items, take beautiful pictures, or talk with the sellers.
  • Arusha Declaration Museum - The Arusha Declaration Museum displays documents on Tanzania’s colonial history, the fight for independence, and where the first Tanzanian president, Julius Nyerere, outlined his political vision. After visiting the museum, we pass by the city’s largest football stadium and main bus station.
  • Cultural Heritage Centre - The Arusha Cultural Heritage Centre is a place where art and artifacts from Tanzania, East Africa, and other African countries can be viewed in a single compound. The center boasts various carvings, gemstones, artifacts, clothing, and books. The museum is divided into two parts: the Cultural Heritage section, which is more for shopping and displays, and the African Art Gallery, which focuses on displaying different African art and some shopping. Anyone can find a gift from this extensive museum and art gallery in Africa.

Cannot experience Arusha properly without this tour - If you're on the fence about doing this tour, I would highly recommend you go for it. We did some sightseeing in Arusha without a guide & it was not even close to comparing to this. Having someone local to explain everything and answer all our questions was invaluable. Israel was out guide for this fantastic tour and he was amazing guide and very knowledgeable, personable, funny and he knows so much about Tanzania and Arusha. We went to lots of different places, but a particular highlights was going through the local foods market that is not even easy without local, abd we saw the best sunset in the city, to ride the public transport is the extra miles experience. A really sobering experience, getting insight into how so many people live everyday. We also had some delicious local foods on the tour (but is out of the budget and not so expensive because Israel recommend the local restaurants) Highly recommend both the company and particularly Israel.

IF YOU WANT A GREAT CITY TOUR GUIDE IN ARUSHA, AL FOR ISRAEL. - We had a city tour of Arusha with the tour guide Israel. We are happy we had him. He was very knowledgeable about Tanzania in general and Arusha in particular. He was also quiet polite and respectful. The tour was scheduled to be just 4 hours and went to more than 6. His objective is to make sure you learn and enjoy the tour at the same time. He obtained his objective.

Arusha tour - What an amazing organised experience Christine gave of Arusha. Christine shared great knowledge and expertise in the history of the different areas but also would have conversations which fantastic in it not just being a job or a script and made it more of a personal experience. Christine is great with communication and made the arrangements and get back to you quickly. Excellent tour company and would recommend.

Authentic one day tour of Arusha - I had a fantastic day with my guide Israel walking around the streets of Arusha. We visited the National Natural History Museum and the Tanzanite Experience, followed by several markets to see how people sell their art, fruits, vegetables and lots more. Everything was so interesting and authentic. I was able to see and learn a lot throughout the day, laughed a lot with the very friendly guide and feel like I got the real local experience. Very much recommended!

Must-do in Arusha - I really enjoyed my city tour with Isreal. Even though I‘ve already seen almost everything of Arusha before, I learned a lot of new and interesting things. I would definitely recommend taking this tour for really getting to know Arusha. Isreal took a lot of time explaining everything and you could really feel his dedication to history and nature during the tour.

First in Arusha perfect experience thanks to this tour - Christine was our tour guide for this activity and she really helped us. It was our first day in Tanzania and Arusha, we realized thanks to her that the planning we had made wasn't possible because we took the tour on 8 of August and it's a national holiday in Tanzania so some places closed on that day but she helped us to reorganize our plans. Also she recommended us good places for dinner and drink tea. I totally recommend this agency and if you get the chance to do it with Christine you will be very lucky.

Must have - The activity was great. Israel is a very good Guide who showed us around the city giving us a lot of information about the culture, politics, religion of the country. He is very nice and took us to places where you will not see tourists! We toured the city to see the main monuments and visited the National Natural Museum, the Maasai Point of Sale, the Samunge Point of Sale, the Arusha Central Point of Sale, a jewelry store specializing in Tanzanian gemstone and ended with the Cultural Heritage Center. An additional $6 admission fee will be charged to the National Museum. The day started at 9am and ended at 6pm. we recommend 100%!
