Xel-Ha was even better. I was concerned 4 hrs was too short but it was plenty and the Mayan food was delicious. I Highly recommend!

Very cool - It was interesting to go and hear about the Mayan people and their way of living. To see the homes they built and the pyramids were great. Our tour guide George was a great story teller. He was very knowledgable and it was fun to listen to him. Be sure to bring a hat or umbrella to protect yourself from the sun. Bring mosquito repellant to protect yourself from bug bites. Wear comfortable walking shoes. And enjoy! It is worth the trip!

Be aware that buses do a tour of ALL... -
Be aware that buses do a tour of ALL the hotels in the zone. In our case we were picked up at 7 am. We continued to cruise the hotels for another 90 minutes.
Be careful with shakedowns at Tulum. Kids tickets are 1/2 price... however, if you have a tall kid, they WILL make you pay the adult ticket price regardless of age ... on the spot ... in cash. If you do not submit to the shakedown, you will be in for a really bad time. You are at their mercy and they will make you feel the pain. Likewise, if you buy anything, try to have exact change. Vendors WILL try to give you wrong change or no change at all. When you ask them for money back, they will play dumb and the no hablo game in my case they did not hablo espanol either. Keep in mind that these folks have thousands of tourists come through daily and they are skilled at swindeling. DO NOT take pictures of folks walking around in facepaints and 'native' wear. If you take a picture, they WILL shake you down for 15-20. DO NOT bring a video camera or GO PRO. They will charge you a 'movie camera' fee. Cell phones and regular cameras are OK. Honestly, Tulum was crowded... hot zero shade, stressful and a waste of time. Instead, do the Xel Ha FULL day instead... the 2 half day tours are not worth it. Xel Ha was amazing however, 2 hours there is way too short lunch, get snorkeling gear, etc. etc..
A huge PLUS to this was that Viator handled this situation EXTREMELY well and refunded our overcharges. Still, no one can refund the disappointment, the aggravation and time lost.
