For generations, the enchanting Northern Lights have inspired awe and excitement. Located at 69 degrees North and beneath the Northern Lights Oval, this area offers exceptional conditions for “chasing” the lights.

Despite having significant experience and extensive knowledge of the Northern Lights and the local area, guaranteeing a successful chase is impossible. No one can!

However, every effort will be made to ensure an unforgettable experience. During the 2015/2016 season, the Northern Lights were spotted on 96% of our chases.

Guests will be picked up outside Magic Ice in a minibus (with a maximum capacity of 15 passengers). The focus is on providing excellent, personalized service.

From there, the journey will take you into Norway’s expansive landscape. Sometimes the drive is quite far from Tromsø, while other times it’s much shorter. The destination is decided just before departure, based on the weather forecast and knowledge of the Northern Lights and local surroundings. There may be snow and poor conditions on the coast but excellent conditions elsewhere.

The exact time and location of the Northern Lights’ appearance or the intensity of the activity are never certain. Therefore, reaching places where the vastness and darkness offer the best chances of seeing and experiencing the Northern Lights is crucial, even on nights with less intense activity.

During the journey, the guide will provide information about the area and the Northern Lights. They will be more than happy to answer any questions and will do their utmost to ensure a memorable trip, regardless of the weather.

Warm thermal suits in various sizes are provided, along with a selection of hats, mittens, socks, and boots. If you have your own winter clothes, please bring them; otherwise, suitable gear will be provided. Remember to wear woolen underwear or similar, as dressing in layers is important. Although it is not extremely cold along the coast considering the latitude, it can get quite cold when outside at night for extended periods. Therefore, dressing warmly is important to enhance the overall experience. If unsure about clothing, trust the experience and recommendations provided.

For those wanting to take good photos of the Northern Lights, a DSLR camera and a tripod are recommended. Experienced Northern Lights photographers are available to assist with camera settings and offer tips. Photos are taken on each tour and, conditions permitting, a photo of you with the Northern Lights will be taken. After the tour, photos will be emailed free of charge within a couple of days. To receive photographs, an agreement according to European law (GDPR) must be signed, allowing a picture to be taken. If you wish to withdraw your agreement, it must be done in writing. Please note your excursion date.
