Constructed between 1294 and 1314 during the Mamluk period, it was built around the remnants of a Crusader Church of St. Mary.
  • Taynal Mosque - Emir Saif al-Din Tinal, who governed Tripoli twice (1326-1333 and 1335-1340), constructed a multi-domed mosque on the site of Tripoli’s Carmelite church. The main structure, under several domes, features granite columns with late Roman or Byzantine capitals arranged in two rows. The central area of the mosque, beneath the largest dome, marks the center of the former Carmelite church with four large columns.
