- Postojna Cave - Postojna Cave, the queen of all caves, is the best-known cave in the world. It is also the greatest tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the world’s largest karst monuments. This is the only place in the world where the underground landscape can be traversed on an electric train and where you get to meet this underground kingdom’s most famous inhabitant - the proteus (olm) - up close. A fantastic web of tunnels, passages, galleries and halls, astonishing diversity of karst features, as well as easy access are certainly the main reasons for such popularity of the cave and a large number of visitors (more than 36 million of them in over 200 years).
- Predjama Castle - The Predjama Castle reigns over the surrounding area, not far from the Postojna Cave, in the idyllic village of Predjama. This picturesque, magnificent, defiant, mysterious and impregnable castle has been perched up in the middle of a vertical 123-meter high cliff for more than 800 years. Its romantic appeal is further emphasized by the idyllic Lokva River, which disappears into the underground world deep down below the castle. As the only preserved cave castle in Europe, the Predjama Castle offers a unique insight into the building techniques and resourcefulness of people in the Middle Ages, who were looking for and found a safe harbor for themselves right at the entrance into the cave. During a siege that took place in the 15th century, the castle provided a refuge for its best known and most notorious owner - Erazem of Predjama. The legend about the courageous robber baron Erazem, who remained undefeated until one of his servants betrayed him, is still in people’s minds, inspiring and alluring as ever. It was this safe abode of his which helped the brave knight resist the besiegers without much difficulty for more than a year.

Must experience - The photos of the cave do not do it justice. It’s incredible. The castle is also really cool to see.

BREATHTAKING AND LIFECHANGING!!! - The company and the guide (Ernest, aka Erne) were glorious! They were more punctual than the sun, more professional than corporate, and more personable than your favorite dog.
Specifically, they picked us up at a super accessible centrally located spot, scooped us up in a roomy comfy AC van, took us across the border from Trieste to Slovenia, all the while delighting us with fun facts about the latter and the interchange between the countries.
The castle-within-a-cave was to die for!!!! The engineering marvels of mankind from medieval ages will spark your inner child’s zest for discovery and adventure!!!!! How they used natural holes as chimneys, and manipulated water flow, all the while up in a cliff literally in a cave!!! It’s the coolest castle alive!!! The tour itself is super organized with timing and group appointments and a guided audio that is delightful!!!!
Next was the caves, over 50 km of a maze!!! And you take a fun Disney-esque ride through it!!! It’s breathtaking like melted wax candles stalagmites and stalagtites!!!! It’s a humonguous maze and labyrinth and transports your soul to the bowels of the earth!!! One room is alit with chandeliers and another is a converted concert space. You’ll meet the “baby dragons,” too, the only living creature in there which is mythological in appearance and lore. Again super organized with tour times and appointments and guidance!!!!
At both locations, you’ll be delighted by fun and reasonably priced souvenir shops, yummy cafes for coffee and pastries, and interaction with friendly Slovenians! As our First Lady’s home country, I believe it’s every American’s privilege to visit sLOVEnia!!!!!! Do it with this group 100000%!!!!

A Great Double Up Tour. - Wow....I was (sort of) happy to wait in the cold wind to take this tour. It was extremely trying for me to keep up, but that was my problem...not the tour. So, be aware, it is a very strenuous tour. The cave portion of the tour was jaw dropping. The cave IS HUGE....the train ride is fun & necessary. The Castle has many levels and stairs. I'm a 63 yr old lady & I tried my best to do as much as I could, but did not get to the top. Others made it tho. It was so interesting & weird at the same time. We also stopped for lunch at a lovely local restaurant.....the food was nice & filling & very much appreciated. If I book a whole day of touring, I try to find one with lunch or a snack at least. Would recommend this tour, but remember, it's a lot of effort.

Definitely go - Definitely a great tour with interesting history in the castle. The caves are immense and the walkway, though a little wet, was easy to move along. Lighting provided a spectacular view of the formations.

An adventure for those sure of foot - Vast doesn't begin to describe the scope of Postjana Cave. Start with a 15 minute train ride beginning in the cave. Then a 1 mile walk through huge spaces alternating with low ceilings. The pathway is generally smooth with decent traction although it is always damp and in some spots wet. There are significant inclines and declines. A 15 minute train ride back to the starting point concludes the cave portion.
A 10 minute car ride takes you to Predjama Castle, uniquely situated at the entrance to a cavern. Very picturesque views. The interior is a warren of rooms, halls, and stairs with no rhyme nor reason. Many interesting artifacts are distributed throughout.
Ernie, our guide, was personable, informative, helpful and an absolute pleasure as well as being a good driver.
Neither site is suitable for anyone with limited mobility or balance concerns. The cave has slopes that are often dimly lit and the castle has uneven stairs and walkways along with narrow passages that are hard to navigate.

Castle in beautiful location - We visited the castle, not far from the caves. The Castelo is beautiful and set in the rock in a magical way. I strongly suggest a visit to this castle. Inside there is little to see and access by ticket has a bit ‘special hours, I suggest to inquire first.
