Highlights
  • Jardins d’Etretat - Welcome to the gardens of Etretat!

In 1903, the first tree of this garden, created by the famous actress Madame Thébault, was planted. The inspiration came from the impressionist painter Claude Monet, himself a passionate gardener. It is to him that we owe the original character of the garden, faithfully preserved until today. A villa was built in this splendid garden extending on the cliffs of the Alabaster Coast, on one of the wonders of Normandy

Imperversible - The garden beyond beautiful is super original and offers experiences that involve senses that not only the vision. Besides, the visit to the garden brings one of the most stunning views of the cliffs of Etrétat. It is an indispensable walk and the climbing by stairs can also be replaced by the small tram that leaves the city centre.

Bucket list worthy - This garden has been on my personal bucket list since it reopened in 2017 after the restoration. Wandering down all the many alleyways among the whimsical art pieces makes you feel like you are somewhere in an Alice in Wonderland movie, but with the addition of incredible views (there is a reason Claude Monet chose this spot to paint the cliffs of Etretat). For me this was a solid enough reason for a day trip from Paris, and worth coming back one day.

Beautiful gardens and art - This was a wonderful surprise! We were not expecting the gardens to be so vast and interesting. We got the little train here with our two children (aged 4 & 0). Our 4 year old loved the gardens and the twisty paths leading to different art installations. There are plenty of places to sit around the gardens with spectacular views. The cafe serves cakes, coffee & cold drinks with lovely outdoor seating. I can’t fault this at all, it made our holiday.

A magical place - The gardens are located on the promontory opposite the cliffs and can be reached either on foot in a quarter of an hour walk, or by train that leaves from the main square of the village and costs about 10 € per person (adult). Access to the gardens costs an additional 10 € but it is really worth it because they are well-kept and rich in wonderful vegetation. It is a fairly small structure but definitely worth seeing. A well-known Notre Dame Church and the country's heritage museum are also within walking distance. Highly recommended.

Visit of 11 August - Value Award too expensive. Signage inside the garden to review and for the Award, the plants were badly pruned.

Very expensive for half an hour visit - That's nice, of course. But the garden is very small, the view is no more beautiful than the one enjoyed free a little further, and plants are common varieties. In short, very expensive to see bushes cut into balls.

Too expensive... - 14 euros to spend 45 minutes maximum in these gardens strolling as much as possible is really too much. It's beautiful, but it's not worth the Award. And no need to pay so much for a view of the cliffs that is free a few meters away...very disappointed 😞

Expensive scam - The garden is nice. The prices are amazing; almost €40 two adults and a boy. You can not go by car: you pay 7.50€ 5 hours of parking also because you can not spend less. Even if you have to stay an hour you still pay for 5 hours. All this money for flower beds and plastic heads and "natural" music is not worth it. Not recommended.

Disappointing - We were very disappointed because we were sold the best view of Etretat while we have the same for not a euro next door. 14 euros/person: far too expensive for what it is even if it is nice and well maintained. Recommend only to garden enthusiasts, art and/or zen attitude.
