The journey will navigate the cliff and its inlets via the Le Matinelle path. This rugged coastline, with its towering and unbroken walls overlooking the sea, offers a chance to observe the vibrant bee-eater and hear its distinctive call, reminiscent of a “crane-crane.” This migratory bird, with a wingspan akin to a kite, spends winters in tropical Africa and arrives in the region in late spring to nest along the sandstone cliffs.
This stunning coastal trail leads to Le Conche, a shaded pine forest near a cliff where dinosaur footprints, dating back approximately 120 million years, can be found. These footprints are now part of the Geosites Register. The route concludes at Torre Olivieri, a 16th-century watchtower situated at the mouth of Lama Paterna, a small erosive valley characteristic of the Apulian landscape, which channels rainwater from the Murge karst plateau to the Adriatic Sea.
