Discovering Tomar’s Historical Treasures
Tomar, a city steeped in history and culture, offers a perfect blend of exploration and relaxation for families. As the sun rises on April 26th, the weather promises a delightful day for outdoor adventures. Begin your journey with the Heritage Tour that departs at 8:30 AM. This immersive experience takes you through Portugal’s rich past, starting with the Convent of Christ, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The architecture here is a testament to the Knights Templar’s influence on Portugal’s history. As you wander through the ancient halls, imagine the stories of knights and monks that echo through the stone walls.
After exploring the Convent, the tour continues to Nazaré, a coastal town known for its vibrant fishing traditions and record-breaking waves. Although the waves might not be at their peak, the views are breathtaking, and the fresh sea breeze is invigorating. The tour concludes in the medieval town of Óbidos, where you can stroll through cobblestone streets and sample the local cherry liqueur, Ginja. A review from March 22, 2025, captures the essence of this tour:
Great day out! - To say weather had been a problem in Lisboa for our vacation meant our hopes for this trip were even higher. We were not disappointed! In fact, Jaio, our guide, added so much insight that the day passed too quickly. Tomar castle was a really interesting place to visit - and inside while it rained! Nazaré was not spoiled by too many tourists (yes, we’re tourists of course). Lunch was superb and the views from the Place of Nazaré amazing. The winds made for wild waves, but well short of the monster waves. And while it rained during lunch it was sunny for the photo opps. Obidos, the last stop, was definitely a UNESCO treasure. A wander along the streets and then along the castle walls felt a touch magical. Or maybe that was the Ginja sampling at Luis’ family shop. (Yes, sample the Ginja and be prepared to buy a bottle - you will not regret!) A day that was worth every Dollar/Euro/…

Loved the trip!! It was very informative and interesting. - We had an excellent tour to Alcobaca, Batalha & Tomar Monasteries. Our tour guide Joao from VangoTourism conveniently picked us up from our apartment in Lisbon and the trip was very well organized. He was extremely knowledgeable about history and monasteries and managed the tour very effectively. Overall we loved the tour and we would recommend it. It was a good value for the money. Joao was attentive to our needs which added to the sense of relaxation, and made it more memorable. Great trip!!
