Great fun and many laughs with Taka. He’s got great knowledge of the area and made it fun. Thank you - Taka really listened to what we wanted to do. We went to some original markets and then to Senso Ji Temple. We also ended up going to late brunch as we were hungry - and he found an amazing restaurant for us to enjoy local cuisine.

Lilian is Supberb - Lilian was fantastic! Despite a mix-up with our itinerary due to a communication error on TripAdvisor's part, she adapted brilliantly. Her extensive knowledge and fluency in Japanese and English, made navigating Tokyo a breeze. We managed to see everything we wanted within just four hours, thanks to her expert guidance. I especially enjoyed the mini history lessons she provided and her ability to thoroughly answer my detailed questions. Lilian made sure we felt secure and well-informed throughout our tour. A huge thank you to her!

Go on a tour with Sumire! - We signed up for a 4 hour walking tour for our first day in Tokyo. Sumire was our guide and we thought she was great! She texted us ahead of time to find out what our interests were and what we wanted to see. She was a very good communicator ahead of time and was ready and waiting for us in the lobby of our hotel. We walked around Tokyo and saw various sites. We finished our time with a delicious traditional Japanese lunch. We loved the food and Sumire was fun to hang out with and she told us a lot about life in Japan.
We ended our tour with a trip on the subway which was super helpful.
We highly recommend signing up for a tour; you will find it well worth your time and money. I would also recommend Sumire as she is knowledgeable and also great company!

An immersion in Tokyo daily life - This was a one day immersion in Tokyo life, expertly guided by Lilian of Japan Discovery Squad. We went into cool shopping areas, seeing the whole range of Tokyo’s consumer culture. Fashion, electronics, game arcades, food, Pokémon cards. We visited a Buddhist temple and a Shinto shrine, the last situated in the beautiful Meiji park. Also got a view from above at an observatory. Lilian showed us how to set up a transit pass on our phones, then expertly guided us through the complicated Metro system as we visited different sites. We never would’ve been able to see and do as much without her. It was fun to have lunch with her at the restaurant where your food arrives via conveyor belt. She also explained how the vending machines work, and that you can use your transit pass to pay for stuff. Her explanations of the quirks, benefits, and challenges of daily life in Japan were fun and insightful.

Tokyo drifting with Nao - Nao Y. is the best tour guide and she helped me navigate through Tokyo. I flew in from NYC, so the flight was long but Nao greeted me with her red jacket and all smiles. NYC subway and the commuters have nothing on Japanese rush hour traffic. It was a walking tour, so have your comfy gym shoes on as Nao takes you to the famous sites. I only had a quick layover in Tokyo, so public transportation is the quickest way from Haneda airport & she met me at the arrivals gate. I was impressed by her knowledge of the city and we navigated through the crowds with ease, like a NYC yellow cab floating through the streets uptown when you catch a green light. The sushi spot we ate at in the Uniqlo building was delicious, very fresh fish and the draft beer 🍺 went well with my sushi 🍣. We shopped at Don Quijote and swam like salmon upstream at Shibuya crossing. If you want an enthusiastic and chill tour guide, ask for Nao. She’s the best!

4 hours tour - I took this tour back in summer 2024. Overall enjoyable and nicely paced. Our guide took care of explaining everything, but the train rides took too long.

Not great - These tours really all come down to the guide. Our guide was a young woman just out of high school. She was not very talkative and when I asked questions, she only knew some of the answers. (We were going to normal tourist spots and she knew beforehand where we were going, so she had time to research.) The rest of the answers she looked up on her iPad, which I could have done. She was nice, but I don't think being a tour guide is her calling. We went on another tour the following day with a college-aged woman, who was super talkative, knowledgeable and fun. So again, it's all about the guide.
