- Hakone Ropeway - The Hakone Ropeway is a picturesque aerial lift connecting Sounzan Station and Togendai Station on Lake Ashi. The 4km journey takes approximately 30 minutes, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains, Lake Ashi, and Mt. Fuji on clear days. Notable stops along the route include Owakudani, an active volcanic valley, and Ubako. The ropeway is a key component of the “Hakone Loop,” a popular sightseeing route.
- 大涌谷 - (Hakone Owakudani) Formed by a volcanic eruption over 3,000 years ago, Owakudani is a volcanic valley with active sulfur vents and hot springs. This area is one of Hakone’s most renowned tourist attractions due to its volcanic activity and breathtaking scenic views—you can even enjoy a spectacular view of Mt. Fuji on a clear day. Visitors can purchase hard-boiled eggs cooked in the volcanically heated waters. The eggshells are blackened by a chemical reaction with the hot spring water, and these eggs are believed to extend one’s life by seven years. Despite the black shell, the inside is a regular boiled egg.
- Lake Ashi Wild Grass Garden - Lake Ashi was formed around 3,000 years ago when an eruption of Mt. Kami, the central peak of the Hakone volcano, caused lava and volcanic rock flows to block the Haya River. Combined with rainfall from above and groundwater seeping up from below, the trapped waters of the river formed a lake that is now up to 43.5 meters deep and 19 kilometers in circumference. Thanks to its volcanic springs, Lake Ashi never freezes over in winter. Its water is often warmer than the air, resulting in frequent heavy fog around its shores.
- Lake Ashinoko - Enjoy lunch at a Japanese Trinational Restaurant. Opt for a window seat if available, as it offers a view of the expansive Lake Ashi and pirate ships docked right before your eyes! Relish your meal along with this magnificent sight.
- The Hakone Open-Air Museum - The Hakone Open Air Museum (箱根彫刻の森美術館, Hakone Chōkoku No Mori Bijutsukan) successfully creates a harmonious balance of nature and art by displaying various sculptures on its grounds, complemented by views of the surrounding valley and mountains.
- Hakone Shrine - Hakone Shrine is one of the most popular and significant attractions in this region of Japan. The shrine’s history spans 1200 years and is associated with legends of dragons and samurai warriors. It also features one of the most beautiful photo spots, the Gates to the Hakone Shrine.
- Gotemba Premium Outlets - Gotemba is Japan’s most popular outlet mall, featuring 210 stores offering luxury, sports, and international brands. Situated at the base of Mt. Fuji, Gotemba Premium Outlets hosts luxury boutiques and stores selling everything from clothing and accessories to cosmetics and home essentials.
