Highlights
  • Cerro Cristo Rey - Tamesis - Cerro Cristo Rey is located in the western mountain range of Colombia in the Cuchilla Jardín-Tamesis. The Christ from the pedestal to the top measures 11 meters, the pedestal measures 4 meters. We went up the road that took 3 years to build. The pieces of Christ were carried on mule backs where 500 people participated in this work.

We climb through a pasture where we can see the fall of La Peinada Waterfall, then we follow the stone path until we reach the first Stations of the Cross where there is a cross and further on we will reach Cristo Rey where we can see the valley of the Cartama River where we can see the River Cauca, Río Poblanco, Río Cartama and the Río Buey and also when it is clear you can see the cap of the Nevado del Ruiz or what remains of it. You can also see other municipalities such as Aguadas, Valparaiso, La Pintada, El Alto del Burro and also Los farallones de la graffiti. At the top we can enjoy a delicious typical Tamesino cold cuts wrapped in banana leaves.

Thames, due to its geographical location, is unique. From Cerro Cristo Rey, which is the highest part of the mountain range, you can see the entire Cartama River Valley and the Cauca River.
No other site has such a wonderful view. The mountain range that protects Támesis is visualized as a large wall where the sun hides in the afternoons.

Happy with Alex as a personal guide hiking Cerro Cristo Rey - Alex was a very pleasant guide who knew the trail well and got me to the top and back down again in time for me to catch the bus to Medellin. He's from Támesis, a beautiful town of very friendly people. He packed a full Colombian style lunch for us to eat at the summit. In my case it took about 2 hours to walk up and about 2 hours to walk down carefully. Bring plenty of water because you will sweat :-) Because it was rainy season it was mainly cloudy but there was a break in the clouds and you could see the village far below you. I recommend to Alex to anyone who wants to hike this trail.
