- Firostefani - Nestled in the northern part of Santorini, Firostefani is situated between the renowned towns of Fira and Imerovigli. Although officially recognized as a separate village, it is essentially an extension of Santorini’s capital, the famous Fira. Positioned at the highest point of Fira, Firostefani translates to the “Crown of Fira,” with “Stefani” meaning crown in Greek, symbolizing the “Crown of Nature.” This village is one of the island’s most breathtaking spots, attracting both locals and tourists. It offers stunning panoramic views of the island and the caldera. Visitors can enjoy accommodations, exquisite restaurants, bars, and various leisure and relaxation options. Firostefani caters to the highest standards, making it a favored destination for world celebrities.
- Imerovigli - Explore Imerovigli, renowned for offering the most spectacular views of the caldera, with a local guide to uncover hidden gems. Known as the “balcony to the Aegean Sea,” Imerovigli is perched on the highest point of the Caldera cliffs, approximately 300 meters above sea level. Located in the island’s northern region, just two kilometers from Fira, it provides a breathtaking view of the famous volcano, the glistening Aegean Sea, and an unforgettable sunset.
- Oia - Oia village is among the most popular and frequently visited locations in Santorini. Situated in the southern Aegean Sea, on the islands of Thera and Thirasia in the Cyclades, Greece, Oia encompasses the entire island of Thirasia and the northwestern part of Santorini, shared with the municipal unit of Santorini. Oia is celebrated for its stunning sunsets, and its sunrises are equally enchanting. The village features two types of dwellings: cave houses carved into the volcanic rock on the Caldera cliffs and captain houses.
- Monastery of Profitis Ilias - The Monastery of Prophet Ilias is perched atop the island’s highest mountain, standing at 587 meters above sea level. Dating back to 1711, this site holds significant historical interest and offers indescribable views.
- Castelli of Pyrgos - The traditional village of Pyrgos, the highest settlement in Santorini, is home to the atmospheric Castle of Pyrgos. Constructed around 1580, it is likely the last of the island’s five fortified settlements. Its strategic location provides unique views of expansive plains and the sparkling Aegean Sea.
- Megalochori - Traditional Village - Megalochori is an authentic village that has preserved its character and atmosphere, along with its Cycladic architecture, featuring whitewashed houses, blue domes, and winding cobbled streets waiting to be explored. Strolling along the cobbled paths, visitors can admire neoclassical and ancient cave houses with sturdy wooden doors and high fences. The village square serves as the heart of the community and a gathering place for locals and tourists. Here, one can savor local cuisine and sweets or enjoy a cup of Greek coffee under the shade of the trees.
- Red Beach - Red Beach is situated in the southeastern part of the island near the archaeological site of Akrotiri, 14 km from Fira, and is easily accessible by car or bus. A parking area is available next to the charming chapel of Agios Nikolas (St. Nicholas) at the end of the road. The short hike to the beach over the rocks from the parking lot can be challenging. For those who prefer to avoid the walk, a short boat trip from Akrotiri, Kamari, or Perissa is an option. A swim at Red Beach can be combined with a visit to the Akrotiri archaeological site.
Although Red Beach may not be among Greece’s top beaches, it is worth the effort to reach it. Visitors can swim, admire the dramatic volcanic rock backdrop, and capture stunning photos. Access can be tricky and may not be suitable for those with mobility issues. Some signs warn of potential danger due to falling rocks, so visitors should remain on the beach at their own risk.

Akrotiri Archaeological Site - Akrotiri is renowned for its famous prehistoric settlement from the Minoan period, although the current village is less well-known. It is a picturesque traditional village built around a medieval castle on Santorini’s southwest edge, near the famous Red Beach and about 15 kilometers from Fira. In addition to being home to one of the Aegean’s most important archaeological sites, it offers some of the island’s best views.
The peninsula is globally recognized for its prehistoric settlement, discovered in 1967. Often referred to as the “Pompeii of the Aegean,” it was completely covered in volcanic ash following the 1620 BC volcanic eruption. The well-preserved prehistoric town is a major attraction in Santorini. At the village’s summit, there is an ancient fortress. -
Emporio - Emporio village is located in the southern part of Santorini, approximately 10 km from Fira, the Chora of Santorini, and 12 km from Santorini Airport. The village is also just 4 km from the renowned black beach of Perissa.
Emporio feels like a lowland village at the mountain’s base, offering views of a valley village complete with vineyards. The name Emporio (Niborios), meaning “trade” in Greek, hints at the village’s historical significance to Santorini’s economy during medieval times. Emporio is a castle village with one of the best-preserved and most unique medieval castle towns. - Perissa Black Sand Beach - Perissa is a stunning beach covered in black volcanic sand, perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and snorkeling. Located on Santorini’s southeast coast, it extends at the base of the massive Mesa Vouno promontory, which dramatically rises from the sea. At the mountain’s peak lies the ancient city of Thira. Perissa is one of the island’s most cosmopolitan beaches, stretching for miles. It connects with Perivolos Beach, forming a more than 7-kilometer stretch. The water is crystal clear, easy to wade into, and beautiful. The coarse black sand is comfortable to walk on and glistens like glitter. However, it can become very hot during the summer.
