- Museum of the Royal Tombs of Aigai (Vergina) - Situated 75 km west of Thessaloniki, the Museum of the Royal Tombs of Aigai (Vergina) is nestled in the area of the ancient Kingdom of Macedonia’s royal tombs. This underground museum, featuring the tomb of Philip II of Macedon, commenced construction in 1993 and opened its doors in 1997. The museum’s exhibitions are displayed across four interconnected sections, including the Palace, the royal funerary group of the Temenid dynasty (funeral group “C”), the funerary group of Philip II, and the entrance showcasing sculptures discovered in the city’s sanctuaries and the restored upper floor of Philip’s Palace. Recognized for their outstanding architecture and historical significance in the evolution from city-states to empires in European civilization, the tombs and other archaeological treasures of Aigai were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996.
- Agios Nikolaos - A true paradise on earth located in the heart of Imathia, offering a refreshing escape from ecological degradation. This stunning 60-acre area is brought to life by the springs of the historic and precious Arapitsa River. The grove, with its ancient plane trees, captivates visitors year-round with its grandeur and size. Beneath its shade lies a vast expanse of natural greenery, harmoniously coexisting with wild native boxwood, linden, oak, and abundant water, creating a rare symphony of sounds and colors. Supported by the European Union’s LIFE program, this beautiful site aims to protect and promote its natural beauty while establishing a foundation for sustainable ecological management. Annually, the grove attracts 1,000,000 visitors.
- Edessa Waterfalls - Located in the city of Edessa in Macedonia, Greece, the Edessa Waterfalls are a natural marvel formed after a powerful earthquake in the 14th century. Subsequent smaller earthquakes have altered their structure over time. The primary source of these waterfalls is the Agra-Nisi wetland, from which the Edessa River flows. The river splits into several waterfalls, with the Waterfalls Geopark covering an area of over 100,000 square meters and featuring a 1.1 km cliff path. The waterfalls are the main draw for visitors to Edessa, with twelve waterfalls in the vicinity, four of which are visible. The Waterfalls Park trails include a cobblestone path leading to Ancient Edessa through the city plain, part of the ancient Via Egnatia that linked Ancient Edessa, the Acropolis of Edessa (Varossi area), and Thessaloniki until the early 20th century.
