Additional Information

A morning paddle on Yellowstone Lake is a great way to start the day before moving on to afternoon activities.

We begin the tour at 8AM to beat the wind and waves that can form later in the day. Morning is the best time of the day to spot wildlife.

Your kayak instructor will provide a safety briefing and introduce your group to the kayaks and paddle strokes. The tours have a ratio of 6-guests-to-1-guide. The minimum age to join this tour is 14.

Once underway, we journey from the Grant Village Marina to the West Thumb Geyser Basin, weather permitting. The sight of the steaming geyser basin forms a lifelong memory. Enjoy the big mountain views of the Absaroka Range across the lake. Getting out on the water is a unique way to experience the Park.

Our tours are fun! But we also have a passion for the Park and enjoy sharing information about the flora, fauna, and history of the region.

Please, come enjoy a day on the waters of Yellowstone Lake with Yellowstone Hiking Guides.

Awesome experience - Josh was an excellent guide. He was also knowledgeable on the area. Despite the weather and being my boyfriend and I first time on the kayak it was beautiful to see the geysers up close and to see the beautiful surroundings.

Fantastic fun for the family! - Our tour started at 8 am. Karlie and Josh are very welcoming and knowledgeable tour guides. They are young enthusiastic and took great care of our group. They made everyone feel welcomed. We started out the chilly morning with hot coffee/ tea. Super awesome to warm us up! Our family has taken many kayaking tours and this one by far was the most hospitable. They had all the kayaks lined up. We did a brief safety briefing along with kayaking instructions. Josh was leading the front. Karlie was sweep in the back to ensure we were all present. We kayaked along the shoreline of West Thumb. The weather was perfect! But being so well prepared, we had a chance of rain so they provided rain parkas for us. We didn’t end up needing them but this is an example of how thoughtful they were. Josh was great telling us history and point out landmarks. We stopped for a snack and rest break about 1/2 toward our turnaround. They provided trail mix to energize us. The water was so calm and peaceful. Truly a wonderful experience. We turned around and kayaked back. Even though our tour ended at noon, rather than dismissing us, they provided a really nice sandwich lunch for us. Very thoughtful. We thoroughly enjoyed our excursion. You can’t ask for better guides than Karlie and Josh. I HIGHLY recommend this tour.

Great family experience! - We did the early-morning kayak with my husband, my nine-year-old daughter and me. The guides, Mike and Josh, were amazing! So much information, and they kept a great pace. My husband and daughter did a double kayak and that worked well double kayak, and that worked well. The companies supplied the jackets to keep us dry and warm, and also serve some nice sandwiches after the tour wrapped up. It was great connecting with the other people on the tour, too. The other bonus was that driving in for the 8 o’clock launch, we saw a pack of wolves crossing the road. It was pretty awesome! I would highly recommend this tour!

We had an awesome time with Karly and Mike - We had an excellent time with Karly and Mike! It was a beautiful day out on the water and so cool to see Yellowstone's beauty from the lake. These two had some great info on the park, the geysers we went by and all the wildlife. We enjoyed the morning snacks and lunch and incidentally, we also took them up on the BBQ recommendation outside the park, which was spot on! We had a quick intro instruction before we went out. It was a leisurely paddle, tucked close to shore with a few stops and catch up sessions. I'd recommend the experience for sure! Bring some cash for a tip, I don't think they have Venmo or anything like that as the Park's service is spotty.
