In the morning, the journey to Svaneti begins. Along the way, there is a stop in Zugdidi to explore the Dadiani Palace, once the residence of a local lord who governed a significant portion of Western Georgia. The trip continues to the Enguri Dam, one of the tallest arch dams globally, standing at 271.5 meters. The drive proceeds to Upper Svaneti, a remarkable mountain landscape featuring well-preserved villages with unique defensive tower houses, medieval ecclesiastical architecture, and art. The day concludes with a drive to Mazeri village for an overnight stay.
Mazeri-Ushba Waterfalls-Mazeri
Mazeri - The morning starts with a hike from Mazeri village, following the Dolra River upstream. The trail passes mineral water springs, a quaint church in a scenic spot, and beautiful meadows, gradually ascending through picturesque pine forests to a border post, where the final ascent begins. The day ends with a return to Mazeri village.
Mazeri-Guli Pass – Koruldi Lakes – Mestia
Mestia - Another splendid hike begins in the morning, leading to Koruldi Lakes via Guli Pass. At an elevation of 2960 meters, Guli Pass requires good physical effort to climb. After crossing the pass, the descent into another valley leads easily to Koruldi Lakes, a small alpine lake surrounded by impressive mountain peaks, including Ushba.
Mestia-Zhabeshi
Zhabeshi – Adishi
Adishi - After breakfast, the adventure into the wilderness begins. The hike ascends the slopes of Tetnuldi Mountain, passing a ski resort and descending into birch and rhododendron forests. After crossing a small mountain river, the alpine meadows reveal Adishi village, featuring stone towers and houses built centuries ago. Its stunning location below Tetnuldi Mountain, on the right bank of a roaring mountain river, and amidst high mountains with local architecture, makes this village uniquely picturesque.
Adishi – Chkhutnieri Pass - Iprali
Ushguli - The Svaneti Adventure starts early in the morning, following the river upstream. After an hour of pleasant walking, the roaring Adishi River must be crossed on horseback for safety. The journey continues with a climb to Chkhunderi Pass (2655m), offering majestic panoramic views of the Adishi Glacier. After lunch on the ridge, the descent into the Khaldechala River valley begins. A two-hour easy walk leads to Khalde village, destroyed in the 19th century by Russian soldiers. The path then follows an off-road trail to Iprali village.
Iprali -Ushguli-Mestia
Mestia - The morning trek passes through traditional Svani villages. After Kala and Davberi villages, the trek continues through the forest, reaching Ushguli from above. Ushguli, located at the foot of Mount Shkara and at the confluence of the Enguri and Kvishiri rivers, is the highest permanent settlement in Europe (2200 m). The blend of mountainous landscapes and medieval towers and churches is astonishing. Visitors can explore the Ushguli Ethnographic Museum in a 12th-century Svanetian tower-house and visit the medieval Lamaria Church (of the Assumption of the Mother of God). Overnight stay in Mestia.
Mestia-Tbilisi
Tbilisi - After breakfast, the journey back to Tbilisi begins. On the way, there is a visit to the Chalaadi Glacier, following the Mestiachala River upstream for 1.5 km to the river’s source. The trip concludes with the return to Tbilisi.
