A Journey Through Time: The Monastery of Poblet

Our family adventure began with a visit to the Monastery of Poblet, a Cistercian abbey that has stood the test of time since its founding in 1150. As a museum curator, I was particularly drawn to the rich history and architectural grandeur of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The monastery, once in disrepair, was lovingly restored by four Italian Cistercians, and today it stands as a testament to resilience and faith. My children were captivated by the stories of the Black Madonna and the legends surrounding her, and it was a joy to see their imaginations come alive.

As we stood at the Montserrat viewpoint, taking in the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for the experiences we had shared as a family.
