Most of these are chambers carved into the rock, topped with tumuli, with the oldest dating back to the seventh century BC. Among them, approximately 200 tombs boast a series of frescoes, representing the largest collection of Etruscan pictorial art that has survived to the present day, and the most significant evidence of ancient paintings prior to the Roman Imperial Age.
