- Taqah Beach - Begin your journey at Taqah Beach, where the town’s rich culture and history are complemented by one of the most stunning sandy coastlines in the area, adorned with towering palm trees. Visitors can enjoy the shimmering silver sunlight reflecting on the ocean’s surface, accompanied by the gentle sound of waves. Taqah Beach is also popular for dolphin sightings, and with a bit of luck, one might witness these playful creatures near the shore.
- Taqah Castle - Following the beach visit, the guide will take you through the charming fishing town of Taqah, passing by local plantation farms.
This picturesque coastal town is famous for producing ‘Dried Sardines’ and various agricultural products, and is known for its traditional Dhofari Mud Houses. The tour includes a stop at the historic ‘Taqah Castle,’ once the residence of the ‘Wali’ (Governor) and now a museum showcasing numerous exhibits that offer insights into the city’s rich history and the ancient lifestyle of its inhabitants. Visitors will also have the chance to see the nearby watchtower (old Fort) on the hill next to the castle (see the photos).
- Taqah View Point - Taqah Viewpoint Cliff offers stunning panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and the surrounding landscape. Situated high above the coastline, this scenic location provides a dramatic vantage point where visitors can observe the azure ocean meeting the rugged cliffs below. The cliffs, with their steep drops and rocky formations, create a striking contrast with the vibrant blue sea. It’s an ideal spot for photography, relaxation, and appreciating the serene beauty of nature, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists in Taqah.
- Wadi Darbat - The next destination is the nearby Wadi (valley) Darbat, renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty. It ranks among the top two tourist attractions in Dhofar, offering a perfect setting for a memorable day, especially with family. The valley is famous for its spring, which forms a beautiful lake from natural underground water. There are numerous seasonal water activities, particularly after the monsoon, such as pedal kayaking, speedboats, and kayak boats. The area boasts a rich ecosystem, several charming small waterfalls, and a pleasant climate for a refreshing and relaxing experience. Additionally, visitors can often see herds of local animals, such as camels, cows, and goats.
- حفرة اذابة اعتير - The following stop is a 20-minute drive from Darbat Valley through the open countryside of the Jaballi settlement (Mountain Locals) to the Tawi Attair sinkhole, locally known as the “well of birds.” This impressive karst limestone formation is 211 meters deep, equivalent to a 60-story building. The guide will provide information about it and take visitors to the viewpoint, where they can hear the echoes and twitters of numerous birds nesting in the walls of this massive limestone plateau. This location is truly a natural wonder.
- Earth Gravity Controversial - The next stop is 15 minutes away, down the hills of Samhan Mountain, to the intriguing gravity point. This natural phenomenon defies explanation, as a stretch of road appears to defy gravity. When a car is placed in neutral gear, it seemingly moves uphill, creating an astonishing scene. It’s a phenomenon that must be experienced firsthand.
- Baobab Trees | أشجار التبلدي - Located in the heart of Wadi (valley) Hinnah at Samhan Mountain, the next stop offers a chance to see the unique giant Tabaldi Baobab Trees, scientifically known as Adansonia digitata. With their rare and distinctive form, these trees, locally called Ankiji or Al Mashwa, are truly fascinating. There are about 200 Baobab trees in Dhofar, reaching up to 25 meters tall and 2 meters in diameter. These remarkable trees are typically found in Africa, especially Madagascar. Visitors can capture memorable photos and experience this rare habitat.
- Sumhuram Old City - The final stop is a UNESCO World Heritage site, where visitors can explore the preserved remains of the ancient Sumhuram city, perched atop a small hill overlooking the Indian Ocean. The city tells a story dating back several centuries BC, as it was a significant port for the unique Dhofari frankincense trade. The site’s information center offers a 6-minute video briefing about the city ruins and provides historical context about the location.
