JOZANI FOREST
Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park - The Jozani Forest Reserve is situated between Chwaka Bay and Uzi, and it is the last remaining forest of Unguja, serving as a crucial sanctuary for the island’s wildlife. The allure of a Jozani forest trip lies in the towering trees and palms, offering visitors a truly breathtaking experience. Visitors can encounter the renowned and rare Red Colobus Monkeys, Bushbabies, 50 different species of butterflies, 40 species of birds, and a variety of plants and trees while strolling through the mangrove swamp boardwalk. The mangrove boardwalk offers travelers a unique chance to explore the distinctive mangrove ecology, which is quite enjoyable. Besides other Zanzibar attractions, Jozani Forest is an excellent place to rejuvenate and is the closest one can get to nature.
NORTH COAST TOUR
Zanzibar Island - A full-day excursion to the far north of the island offers numerous fascinating activities, including a Dolphin tour, where dolphins can be spotted early in the morning. If fortunate, one may swim quite close to the dolphins. The Mnemba Island Dolphin Tour involves a two-hour ride by local engine boat. Following this, there is an opportunity to visit a turtle aquarium with various species, where the shallow water allows ample time to enjoy swimming in the scenic aquarium view. At the end of the walk, visitors can either relax on the sandy beaches or swim in the natural sea while waiting for a traditional dhow for a sunset cruise until the sun sets.
STONETOWN TOUR
Prison Island Zanzibar - Despite its unromantic name, Stone Town is the historical and cultural heart of Zanzibar. The old Stone Town has been a UNESCO World Heritage site for a decade. Visitors can explore the main city market, opened in 1904, and gain a comprehensive view of Stone Town’s architecture, including its sand and stone antique buildings with Arab/Indian carved doors with brass studs and carved balconies. Along the winding lanes of Stone Town, former palaces and Arab mansions (Sultan Palace Museum, House of Wonders also known as Beit el Jaib 1886) hint at a grander era for this port city on Zanzibar’s western coast. The old fort, built to fend off the Portuguese in the 1700s, now serves as a venue for local performances, a café, and an art gallery. The Anglican Cathedral of Christ, built in 1873 on the site of a former slave market, is a must-see.
SAFARI BLUE
Safari Blue Adventure - The premier boat excursion in Zanzibar, Safari Blue, departs from the fishing village of Fumba in southwest Zanzibar and takes visitors to see the sandbank, Kwale Island, and the coral reef of Menai Bay, a beautiful conservation area with a green lagoon surrounded by mangrove trees. Safari Blue is a full-day trip that includes top-quality snorkeling with guides and instruction, ice-cold sodas, mineral water, and soft drinks with fruits. A delicious Zanzibar seafood lunch with grilled fish and slipper lobster, gastronomic fruit tasting, and coffee are also provided. There is also an opportunity to sail in a ngalawa, a traditional outrigger canoe.
SPICE FARM TOUR
Zanzibar Island - The history of Zanzibar would be incomplete without the cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper, saffron, and many other spices that attracted the Sultan of Oman. One of the most popular excursions in Zanzibar, the Spice Tour, is a half-day excursion that begins with a drive through the countryside’s lush vegetation, followed by walks through several spice plantations such as cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, black pepper, turmeric, vanilla, nutmeg, etc. During the tour, visitors can smell and taste spices, herbs, and tropical fruits. At the end of the tour, they will experience the many ways of utilizing spices, concluding with a stop at a spice stall selling freshly packed spices.
