Arrival
Kilimanjaro Region - Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our professional team will warmly welcome you to Tanzania and transport you to your hotel in either the Kilimanjaro or Arusha region, marking the beginning of your journey to the roof of Africa! After checking into your hotel and enjoying a brief rest, you will receive a pre-trek briefing in the late afternoon. Our professional and experienced guide will explain the itinerary, safety protocols, tips for a successful Kilimanjaro summit, and check your gear while outlining what to expect on the trek. This evening, you’ll have the opportunity to meet your climbing crew before enjoying a restful night’s sleep in preparation for the adventure ahead. For hotel bookings, we recommend seeking advice from our operators, who can assist in booking accommodations close to the destination. Our operator can also arrange pre- and post-accommodation at an additional cost.
HIGH-ALTITUDE DROP OFF DESTINATIONS AND TREKKING TO MTI MKUBWA CAMP (2,780m)
Mount Kilimanjaro - Our guide and mountain support crew will meet you at the hotel for introductions and another briefing. You will be driven from your hotel to Lendorossi Gate (2,200m). After a quick registration with the rescue service and obtaining a permit, the trek begins with an easy walk through the lush rainforest. The trail winds through this vibrant ecosystem, offering the chance to spot monkeys, birds, and occasional exotic plants (not guaranteed). The cool, refreshing air and rich greenery will enhance your experience. Upon reaching camp, our professional mountain crew will prepare everything necessary, set up tents, and cook dinner for you. Due to a reduction in your waking breathing pattern, your body receives less oxygen than during the day. Pay attention to your body and inform your guide if you experience any symptoms of altitude sickness.

This trek is not difficult, allowing you to enjoy spectacular views of Africa and the surrounding areas. Upon reaching camp, you’ll be greeted by the cooler air of the alpine zone and a panoramic view of the majestic Shira plateau. Shira 2 camp is the best place on the trip to see Mount Meru (the fifth highest peak in Africa). Along the way, you’ll have the chance to learn about local Tanzanian culture with your local guides through storytelling and Tanzanian songs to keep you motivated to hike Kilimanjaro. You will have lunch on the way, and upon arrival, a camp and warm dinner will be prepared by our experienced mountain crew.
Distance: 16km/ 8 miles
Hiking Time: 7-8 hours
TREKKING FROM SHIRA 2 CAMP (3,850m) TO THE LAVA TOWER AND DESCENT TO BARRANCO CAMP (3,960m)
Mount Kilimanjaro - After breakfast, you will leave Shira 2 camp (3,900m) and embark on one of the most scenic days of the trek. You’ll begin by crossing the Shira plateau, with panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and the towering Kilimanjaro glaciers in the distance. As you climb higher, you will reach Lava Tower (4,630m), a massive rock formation offering awe-inspiring views. From here, the trail descends to Barranco camp (3,960m), aiding acclimatization as you spend time at this slightly lower altitude before the summit push. Mount Kilimanjaro - It is recommended to leave the camp as early as possible to avoid crowds from other groups. After an early breakfast on day 4, the trek focuses on tackling the iconic Barranco Wall, a steep but non-technical climb through rocky sections and narrow paths. Rest assured, our guides are experts at setting an optimal pace for the group. As you ascend the wall, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of Kilimanjaro’s summit and continue toward Karanga camp (4,035m). After enjoying the summit, you will begin your descent through the alpine desert. Upon arriving at camp, you can celebrate your achievement.
