Tarangire to Lake Manyara National Park
Lake Manyara - After breakfast, take a short drive to Lake Manyara National Park, stopping en route to explore MtowaMbu Village, a melting pot of various Tanzanian tribes. Explore the bustling marketplace before arriving at your accommodation for a hot lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a game drive in the park.
Stretching for 50 km along the base of the 600-meter-high Rift Valley Escarpment, Lake Manyara is a scenic gem described by Ernest Hemingway as the “loveliest I had seen in Africa.” The compact game-viewing circuit offers a microcosm of the Tanzanian safari experience. From the entrance gate, the road winds through lush jungle-like groundwater forests where baboon troops lounge by the roadside, blue monkeys scamper between mahogany trees, bushbuck tread warily, and forest hornbills honk in the canopy. The park is famous for its tree-climbing lions. Highlights include thousands of pink flamingos, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, wildebeest, zebras, baboons, and blue monkeys.
Lake Manyara to Lake Eyasi
Lake Eyasi - Collect picnic lunches and drive to Lake Eyasi, a mildly alkaline lake about 50 km long. The meadows along the lake’s shores are home to leopards, hippos, various monkeys, and birds. Lake Eyasi offers excellent views of the Rift Valley escarpment and is ideal for relaxing and bird-watching.
Visit the Datoga pastoralists and members of the Hadzabe tribe, one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes in Tanzania, with about 1,500 families left.
Go for Hunting with the Bushmen Lake Eyasi
Lake Eyasi - Depart for cultural visits in the area. Eyasi is home to the Hadzabe, a hunter-gatherer tribe that has resisted westernization and continues to live their ancient lifestyle. The Hadzabe coexist harmoniously with nature. You will also meet the Datoga people, another small tribe with a rich cultural heritage. Lunch will be served at the camp. In the late afternoon, drive to Karatu for dinner and overnight.
Karatu to Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - Continue your wildlife adventure by transferring from Karatu to Serengeti National Park. Travel by safari vehicle and enjoy the magnificent views of the endless plains from the jeep as you take in your surroundings for the next four nights.
Visit a traditional Maasai village, where the Chief will guide you around the Boma and explain Maasai culture. Afterward, head towards Serengeti National Park, enjoying lunch en route. The Serengeti, Tanzania’s oldest and most popular National Park, is famed for its annual migration, where over 200,000 zebras and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelles join the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing. Even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers some of the best game-viewing in Africa.
Serengeti National Park
Serengeti Hippo Pool - After breakfast, embark on a game drive in the eastern, southern, or northern parts of the park, aiming to get close to the massive herds, depending on the annual rains. Guides will try to get you as close as possible, but there is plenty of resident game if the herds are not present.
Optional activities: Hot air balloon safari
Experience Serengeti National Park uniquely with a hot air balloon safari. Wake up early to catch the sunrise as you silently fly over the plains. Admire herds of wildebeest, buffalo, and elephants, and enjoy the serene tranquility of the African bush.
Take off at dawn around 5:00 AM for a flight lasting about an hour. Float in the direction the morning winds take you, flying higher than the trees and hills. Enjoy numerous photo opportunities of the scenery and wildlife below.
After a smooth landing, celebrate with a Bush Breakfast “Out of Africa Style” and a glass of champagne. Your driver will then pick you up for a full-day game drive. The balloon safari costs US$ 550 per person.
