All inclusive and private - Jonathan, Jazzy and Chanty did a great job of providing all the service we needed on the boat and then allowed us to explore by ourselves once we arrived at the beach. Everything was perfect and it was a highlight of our trip to Costa Rica.

Worth it - We loved how comfortable it was having the boat to ourselves. The meal, drinks and snacks were all amazing. The area we swam and kayaked was empty except for us.

Great private tour for family and small kids - Great experience. Friendly crew. Boat, food, and activities were as advertised. It was a particularly windy day but our crew managed to be one of the few catamarans with our sails up for part of the afternoon. Spectacular to be out on the water for sunset. Our group was 9 people and the boat had ample room.

Beautiful views but somewhat lacking for price. - Went with a family of five, kids between 9-12 years old. Trip provided everything advertised but the presentation was lacking substantially over other similar trips we have taken. Staff was good, but did not really go that extra mile that you would expect for a $1600 private boat trip. Basically you leave from the beach in Tamarindo, travel for 1 hour and stop about 100 yards off a private beach. At this point you swim to the beach while the staff remains on the boat. You can tote snorkels and goggles…No fins provided…to the beach if you want. Snorkeling was apparently around some rocks near the beach. The beach was beautiful, but you are pretty much sent out with little to no direction and the swim to and from the beach is not that easy…especially if you are older. In any event, the kids loved the beach and saw tons of hermit crabs… In all it’s an ok trip but we would not return. Staff are friendly and nice, but just seemed that we were just moving through the process so the next group could board. Boat was dated and needed some upgrades. We waited to late to book and this was all that was available. Perhaps it would be good for adult groups who want to drink and hang out…but for a family with kids we have seen much better.

We would have expected more for the money - The catamaran was wonderful and we had a lovely afternoon as a family. What we would have liked was a bit more information beforehand, e.g. that although you are on a private tour and pay accordingly, you will be travelling to the same beach with three other large catamarans packed with other tourists and will spend an hour snorkelling and swimming with them. Only if you book a full-day tour will you go to a beach alone without the crowds. A bit more effort from the crew would have been desirable for snorkelling and stand-up paddling. We were briefly informed where to snorkel. As it was quite far away, it took us quite a long time with our three kids to swim there. Unfortunately, when we got there, visibility was very poor. So we all swam back to the boat. When we said that visibility was not good, the captain said that we were in the wrong place and should have swum towards the rocks away from the beach. When I wanted to go up again alone, he said it was too late because we only had 20 minutes left... It's a shame we weren't told about it when we were snorkeling in the wrong place. The food was OK: fresh fruit and chips & salsa were served at the beginning, then lunch was served after snorkeling. Unfortunately, there was no dessert other than pre-packaged cookies. At the end of the tour, we were given two rice puddings. The dessert was probably forgotten... The trip back to the starting point was extremely slow along the coast, which wasn't that much fun. You would have hoped for a bit more speed than on the way there. Even the big catamarans with lots of tourists were further out, as you would be more likely to see dolphins and whales that way. Thank God we spotted a whale ourselves, so Jonathan the captain stopped and let us look. The sunset on the boat was fantastic and made up for a lot. We were given time and Diego was happy to take photos of us as a family. All in all, we would have expected a little more motivation and passion for the money - especially from Captain Jonathan. The other two members of the crew - Diego and a lady - made an effort and communicated more with us.

An Utterly Disappointing Experience with Playtime Charters Tamarindo - If I could give Playtime Charters Tamarindo less than zero stars, I would. As someone who has participated in numerous tours, our experience with this company’s catamaran boat was shockingly abysmal, far and away the worst we’ve ever encountered. From the moment we left on what was supposed to be a relaxing day on the water, we felt like the crew was rushing back to get home to their afternoon charter. Every aspect of the trip was rushed. It felt less like a leisurely sail and more like a race against the clock. The drinks were watered down and the food was terrible. We were taken to ONC beach and only allowed to get in the water ONCE. This is not what we were expecting or told. When we asked if we could jump in the water more than once, the crew said no. This was not a catamaran adventure - and was the worst experience we had in Tamarindo. The boat was run down and old. With all the above bein said, the most frustrating part of the experience came post-tour with Abigail, who we spoke with on the phone. She was exceptionally rude and dismissive of our concerns. Her demeanor was unprofessional and she charged us for two additional guests who were never on board. This could have easily been fixed, but when speaking with her she refused and said it was 'policy' ultimately hanging up the phone on us. In summary, our experience with Playtime Charters Tamarindo was a complete disaster. From the rushed and unwelcoming atmosphere to the subpar food and drinks, limited water access, and the deplorable condition of the boat, every aspect of this trip was a letdown. The appalling customer service and overcharging incident were just the rotten cherry on top of an already sour experience. I cannot stress enough how strongly I advise against using this charter service. For locals and tourists alike looking for a memorable and enjoyable catamaran experience in Tamarindo, look elsewhere. There are plenty of reputable, high-quality options that will treat you with the respect and hospitality you deserve. Avoid Playtime Charters Tamarindo at all costs – you’ve been warned.
