Great private tour to Ijen with amazing views - Great private tour! Being picked up in Uluwatu (at location to our liking) and heading off to Ulun Danu first, then a Warung a few km’s away and then off to the home stay (with another quick visit for dinner) to rest up for some hours. Next morning getting up at 01:00 for visiting Ijen as the absolute cherry on top. Nice hike up in the dark and amazing views when the sun comes up and on the way back. You will be driven privately so no other people in our van. Only point of feedback is that the guide at Ijen could have a bit more information on the hike and the site, making pictures on the other hand was one of his specialties :)

Nice experience. - The hike is steep. Not easy, but we made it. Beautiful view from crater. There were no blue flames which was a little disappointing. Our driver did a very good job.

An extraordinary experience - This was an amazing and extraordinary experience. The driver collected us and drove us across Bali via the Ulun Danu Beratan Temple and had an excellent lunch nearby. The driver (GD) was friendly and had good English. Onward to the ferry to Java and then a 40 minute drive to the accommodation where we had dinner and a short sleep. We then departed the accommodation at 0100 to the the start of the hike. At 0200 we departed with our local guide. The hike demands a reasonable level of fitness, but they can “carry” you in a barrow, as far as the rim of the crater. To get to see the blue flames you have to climb/scramble down about 180m which requires some agility, after this you have to climb up again. Be aware that there are normally a large number of people doing this hike. This was a fantastic experience and well worth the effort. There was a problem with our booking that was rapidly fixed by Rio Bali Tours (they admitted that it was their problem) and fixed it very quickly - full marks! The drivers English was good. A wonderful trip that we shall never forget.

Ijen with Dewa - Dewa was a perfect driver and event manager for all kinds of request / ideas we had during the trip. The Night uphill and all the experiences on top are better described by the pictures ;) Just amazing. But please be warned : You need to be fit and able to hike in difficult terrain (or you pay 2 guys that will carry you on top for 80 USD, but still you will not be able to go down into the crater. Second Idea/Wish: Overnight (1/2 night) accommodation included was one of the more simple ones. But there are options around the Area for all kinds of accommodation. We enjoyed the “Jiwa Jawa Resort Ijen”. Great dinner and breakfast, perfect view over jungle, rice fields into the mountains, huge pool.. - the perfect relax moment after the hike.

A seamless trip to Ijen - This trip was well organized, the guide Gusti was thorough and extremely professional. Ijen crater is a marvel. If you are staying in Bali or short on time (like I was) and not looking to arrange all the transport, accommodation, tickets, and other preparations, this option should appeal to you.

Engrossing, breathtaking, 5.5+1+1.5 hr travel - An amazing and well curated experience which we would do again! Anggik, our driver, was a lovely man and made us feel safe the entire trip. He did a sensational job of driving us all the way from Ungasan across Bali to Java, which is about as far as you can be from the hike starting point! The hike itself was riveting and breathtaking (not only because of the sulphur fumes). We are fast hikers so passed many people on the trail up and arrived at the sulphur field, in the belly of the crater, as the 4th/5th to arrive. We opted to watch the sunrise from a fabulous spot on the crater rim which was incredible - you will only be able to do this if you are organise your time well. Highlights: avoiding the bottlenecks & long queues via fast hiking… sunrise… home stay dinner, breakfast, room to shower & sleep… omitting stops (temples etc) on the drive along the way. Improvements: more specific information in itinerary or from driver eg. unless we asked very specific questions we had no idea what was going on eg. I didn’t realise we actually got a bed to sleep and shower to refresh AND that we were returning to the same room after hike to shower… our guide did not speak English and didn’t seem very motivated. We overheard other guides giving their participants so much great information, laughing etc… no lunch provided either day, which is definitely needed in addition to snacks - make sure you account for this - interesting since our trip covered 2x lunches and we opted out of 2x tours!
