Generous, informative and huge fun. - VIP SUMO Event was brilliant, informative and fun. The instructions to find the venue were clear and easy to follow. There were two ex-rikishi who were extremely fit and impressive and also charming and fun. They demonstrated some training exercises and techniques then invited us to join them on the dohyo. We did our kind of sumo exercises and some pushing practice then those of us who wished to were able to “fight” the ex-rikishi. This was excellent. Clearly none of us would really win, or even stay upright or on the dohyo for long, but we tried our best and got a sense of how powerful the ex-rikishi were while being allowed to push them out of the ring (eventually). The venue was a nice restaurant, and the owner was very kind and helped us into the sumo suits to protect our clothes. Drinks were provided and towels to clean the sand from the dohyo from our feet. One guide gave a very interesting and informative talk and both guides helped with translation, with excellent English, during the interesting and informative question and answer session with the ex-rikishi. One guide took a lot of good photographs during the event and emailed them to us later the same day. The event was generous, unrushed, huge fun, informative and has made me love sumo even more. It was an excellent event, and we left feeling exhilarated with good tickets for the stadium. (We bought SUMO VIP Event with tickets package.)

Sumo Tournament is a Must Do - We did the VIP tour to obtain more firsthand information regarding sumo prior to attending the Makuuchi bouts in the afternoon. It was well worth it and lots of fun. We liked the fact that the group was small. The guide was punctual & easy to understand. Communication with BuySumoTickets was fantastic from our booking to keeping us updated as to the status of our tickets to the delivery at our hotel. Giving us the heads up via email as to the etiquette whilst attending the tournament was very helpful. EG: take your rubbish with you! If you are really interested in attending a sumo tournament it is futile to try to obtain tickets on your own so don’t waste your time.

Such an amazing experience!!!!! - This was such an amazing experience!!!!! The staff was so fun. Wrestling with the sumo guys was so fun. Not only that, but its almost impossible for tourists to get tickets to the championship tournament and through this company, they made it easy!!! Just follow instructions and be respectful and dont forget your tickets! My husband and i had a blast

Intro to Sumo! - This was a fantastic session introducing and explaining all things Sumo. The hosts and sumo's were amazing, very informative and humorous as well.

Sumo Experience - This was a fun and informative experience that I'd definitely recommend! The guides and retired sumo wrestlers were extremely friendly, fun, and made this an enjoyable time! Informative about their culture and the history of sumo, while paired with some fun interactive experiences that started our trip off on the right foot! Others in the group were headed to the sumo wrestling tournament after, and I'm sure their new found knowledge would help! Helpful tip - the meeting place is under the train bridge at the sumo restaurant

Fun morning with Sumo - We had a great time at the VIP Sumo event. We learned a great deal and the videos of my son and I each wrestling with a Sumo wrestler will make my family laugh for years! We were lucky enough to be there during a tournament and went on to use our newfound knowledge to enjoy the sport, but I would recommend doing the VIP tour either way as it was a good way to learn and it was hilarious. The wrestlers they chose to teach us were kind, good spirited and very funny guys.

Great to do with or without going to the sumo tournament - A really great experience. We had tickets to the sumo tournament later that day, so the explanations of the rules and tactics turned out to be helpful. And the "in the ring" experience is not to be missed. The wrestlers were great, and even went easy on the one guy (NOT in our party, but in the same session) who got a little too into it and ripped off his shirt when he jumped in the ring. Thanks again!
