Day 1 - Ubud and Batur Volcano Tour
Barong & Kris Dance - Experience the Barong and Kris Dance
Batubulan is renowned for its trance performances, held every morning at 9:30 sharp. Witness the timeless battle between Ratu Barong, the community’s loyal guardian resembling a cross between a lion and a Pekinese dog, and Rangda, the graveyard’s demonic mistress. At the peak of the drama, Barong’s entranced followers turn their krises on themselves, usually without harm. Even the Balinese, who easily enter trance states, have devised tricks to avoid injury from the sharp blades. Recently renamed for accuracy, the Barong dance remains a captivating spectacle, with occasional genuine trances among the performers. Three professional groups present the Barong Dance each morning. This dance is part of the Bali nature holiday package offered.

Batur
In 1926, Mt. Batur’s violent eruption destroyed the original village of Batur at the mountain’s southern foot. The unharmed but homeless villagers relocated to a high ridge overlooking their former home and began rebuilding their temple, Pura Ulun Danu. Construction continues, creating one of the island’s most impressive temples, with stark meru towers against the smoking volcano backdrop.
Gunung Kawi Sebatu Temple - Visit Gunung Kawi Sebatu Temple
The water temple of Gunung Kawi is just a short distance along this side road. Holy water is requested at a nearby small shrine, and within the temple walls are open-air public baths. The Bali nature holiday package invites visitors to explore other courtyards where shrines and pavilions are lovingly maintained by Sebatu locals.
Rawana and Hanuman

Tegalalang Rice Terrace is one of Bali’s most famous attractions, located north of Ubud at 600m above sea level. Puri Saren Palace - Explore Puri Saren of Ubud and Stay Overnight in Ubud
One of Bali’s most esteemed dance groups performs several nights a week in the outer courtyard of the principal palace, at the northeast corner of the central crossroad. Their backdrop is a grand gate, Kori Agung, built by Ubud’s renowned artist, I Gusti Nyoman Lempad. It separates the outer courtyard from the palace’s inner sanctum, where the current ruling Cokorda resides. The Puri Saren was demolished by the 1917 earthquake, so the maze of courtyards, pavilions, and elaborate gates behind the Kori Agung were mostly rebuilt soon after.
Merajan Agung. The towering gate above a steep flight of steps north of the main palace is one of the finest of its kind, with a striking pyramid of Boma faces above its door. This is the main entrance to the Merajan Agung, the Royal Family’s private palace temple, housing the palace’s most revered heirlooms. This palace is included in the Bali nature holiday package.
