Highlights

Jump on board a salvaged ‘mamachari’ bicycle and join a like minded group of guests on an ALL INCLUSIVE cycling, walking and food adventure in West Tokyo.

Delve into the eclectic local neighbourhoods of Nakano, Koenji, and Asagaya as we pedal to the rhythm of everyday life on this all-season, all-weather neighbourhood jaunt.

With the insider knowledge of a seasoned local, nothing’s off limits as we encounter the urban landscapes, neighbourhood attractions and enticing cuisine that gives these culturally rich areas their distinctive character.

Test your cycling dexterity through the twisting backstreets, coast along the picturesque Zenpukuji River, enjoy a tailored selection of popular local snacks, experience first-hand Tokyo’s unique bicycle parking systems and jostle for counter space with hungry ‘salarymen’ as we refuel for lunch.

The possibilities are endless as we set off to explore a captivating side of Tokyo on our sometimes creaky, sometimes squeak but always immaculately maintained ‘mamachari’ bikes.

A True Tokyo Highlight! - This tour was a highlight of our trip! We loved seeing local neighborhoods with a fantastic local guide in Andy. It was really helpful to do this tour early in the trip as we were able to take Andy's insights into the rest our trip. His local knowledge went a long way in helping us better understand & appreciate the places we visited. Cannot recommend this enough!

Great experience - Andy is a great host and made us feel very confident riding the west side. The route is mainly flat and in addition we had drinks and lunch breaks plus a walk in the local area. Really good fun.

Highly recommend this fun activity - Highly recommend this tour - we thoroughly enjoyed seeing this area and learning about the Japanese way of life with Andy. He went out of his way to fit us in, which we really appreciated and was also super helpful providing other recommendations for the rest of our trip. Both of our kids (ages 13 & 15) rated this as one of their favourite activities on our Japan trip!

Back street bike tour to see a different side of Tokyo neighbourhoods - highly recommended! - Our family of four really enjoyed the bike tour of Koenji and surrounding neighbourhoods. Andy was an expert guide drawing on his many years of living in Tokyo. Highlights included delicious standing noodles which we slurped down fast and gaining insights into the way people live their lives in this densely populated place. If you’re comfortable on a bike, I’d highly recommend this tour as a way to explore a different side of Tokyo.

Bike tour of "authentic" Tokyo with a most informative, English-speaking guide - This was a highlight on our visit to Tokyo. If you are looking for an opportunity to discover the neighbourhoods of the west side of Tokyo and try out delicious street food like a local, then this tour is perfect for you! Travelling on virtually flat terrain, you will cycle on both quiet, narrow and busier streets, while Andy tells stories of life in Tokyo. The ride is about 16 km on a cruiser bicycle, so you’ll want to be comfortable cycling this distance. Note that you will not be visiting the typical tourist highlights on this tour. Highly recommend if you’re looking for an authentic way to visit Tokyo!

A Great Experience - My family (including an 11 year old) loved this tour. Andy was a wonderful host, friendly and knowledgeable, and full of information about the areas we cycled around. As regular visitors to Tokyo we're always looking for new experiences, and Andy's tour provided a new perspective on an area we weren't familiar with. He also followed up the tour with an email full of other recommendations of things to do. Highly recommended.

Highly recommend doing this at the start of your trip, Andy is a fun & friendly guy, who explains a lot about Japanese daily life in Tokyo. Andy gives clear directions to the meeting point & is very responsive with the online booking. Really enjoyed the food on the tour as well. Congratulations Andy, you do it well!
