- Preikestolen Fjellstue - The adventure starts with being picked up very early in the morning by our guide from one of several designated locations in Stavanger. Pick-up times varies, so please check out pick-up time table. Also, book on the morning you wish to see the sunrise, not the night before. After a 45-minute drive, we arrive at the start of the trail (where restrooms are available). When everyone is ready, and the headlamps are on, the hike begins. The landscape is dark and quiet. The towering trees in the forest make the imagination run wild! The pace allows for time to adjust clothes and equipment, time to rest and enjoy snacks.
After ca. 2.5 hours of hiking, we will arrive at Preikestolen, 604 meters above the legendary Lysefjorden. The sheer cliff overlooks the fjord makes for a fantastic reward after all the work it took to get there. If we are lucky, the sun will show itself as it climbs over the mountain ridges.
After we have enjoyed the scenery and relaxed for a while, we head back down. It normally takes about 2 hours to get back down to Base-camp. In the comfort of the mountain lodge, we will enjoy a simple, but fresh and tasty breakfast. Exhausted but satisfied, we get back in the car.

If you partake in our sunrise guided trek, there’s no need to fuss over planning or scheduling. This is especially encouraged if you wish to evade the massive crowds that frequent the trail during peak season (June, July, August). Enjoy the tranquility of early morning hikes instead!

Experiencing the transition from twilight to dawn at the peak is almost enchanting. Even if the day is overcast, the absence of a crowd makes the early rise well worth it.

An Unforgettable Sunrise Hike & Exceptional Service - I had the most incredible sunrise hike with my guide, Stephan. This experience was made even more special by the company's outstanding commitment to their customers.
My hike to Kjerag with a different company was cancelled the day before, with the reason given as "bad weather" (which it wasn't). I suspect it's because I was the only person booked. I was so grateful and impressed when this tour went ahead with just me! It truly shows they value every single customer.
The hike itself was magical. We started early for the sunrise, which meant we had the trail and the stunning views all to ourselves—perfect for photos! Stephan was a fantastic guide; we kept a brisk pace which I really enjoyed, and he took so many wonderful photos of me throughout the trip. It was a bit windy at the top, but it only added to the incredible atmosphere.
To top it all off, we stopped at a lovely local bakery on the way back for a delicious breakfast. It was the perfect end to a perfect morning. Thank you, Stephan, for such a memorable and personal experience! I cannot recommend this tour enough.

A Truly Inspiring and Unforgettable Hike - This experience was nothing short of amazing. I feel especially grateful to my guide, Stephan—an ex-military professional whose presence and personality left a deep impression on me. It was an honor to hike alongside him; he wasn’t just a guide, but an inspiration.
What stood out even more was the commitment to customer satisfaction. Despite being the only participant, the hike went ahead without cancellation. Stephan was right on time, waiting at the entrance, and ready to make the day memorable.
Nature itself added to the magic—the morning was clear, the sun painted the sky with stunning colors before rising, and the whole atmosphere felt truly divine.
Overall, this wasn’t just a hike—it was an experience I will cherish. I recommend this hike a thousand times.

Just the best company to take this hike with 😊 - A massive thank you to Explore Lysefjorden for giving us the best experience on our sunrise hike to Preikestolen 😊 Ahead of the day queries were answered promptly and in a very friendly way. Just me and my teenage son but, as others have said, still the tour goes ahead. Stephan is a great guide. Lovely and obviously knows his stuff-& more. I think we were first up the trail that day and only got overtaken by a small group at the top. At 6 in the morning everyone up there wants to be there for the walk so all very respectful of taking turns to go to the edge. Snack & juice very much appreciated. Walking higher than the rock itself was just the best thing as it’s an even better view from up above; and the hidden trail down is amazing with views over Stavanger. So much nicer than going against the flow of hikers coming up as even by about an hour after sunrise the route up was pretty busy. Stephan’s iPhone 16 Pro was also a real bonus! We have the most amazing pictures of our walk which there is no way we would have got ourselves. And breakfast was amazing! I thought it might be fairly standard. It’s not-make the most of it!
A huge additional thanks to Stephan for getting us back to our accommodation as we weren’t staying all that centrally and we’d walked in for the pick up.
I can see why the ‘Hidden Trails’ walk with this company would be so amazing. I’m not one for packed out tourist trails so if you’re the same but you don’t fancy an early start…Also, just to say, I was let down by another tourist operator with 24hours to spare in getting us to Florli steps (even though I’d booked 7 months prior). A huge disappointment & one I couldn’t resolve with public transport so we missed out. Explore Lysefjorden can get you there. Wish I’d known…

Fantastic Sunrise Hike - Fantastic hike up Preikestolen during sunrise. Our guide, Stephan, was excellent. As a very experienced guide, he provided us with a great insight of Preikestolen, fantastic viewpoints and camera angles. When we arrived at Pulpit Rock, we had all 4 seasons in the space of an hour, but when it cleared, it was fantastic. As Stephan reminded us, we just had to be patient. We couldn't recommend this trip highly enough.

My favorite memory from Stavanger - I have been wanting to see pulpit rock since i was 16! Now 10 years later Explore Lysefjorden made my dream come true. And it was such a blessing to see it without many tourists around! The guide Cristian was awesome and made the experience so much fun and Erlend was sooo helpful answering every question i had before i even arrived in stavanger for the tour😄! Thank you guys!
And if you want to book with them i encourage you to do it! It was my go to tour from the start because every comment was about how awesome and kind everyone is! 😁 And it’s true!

- You must have experienced this... our guide Christian was great. We hiked with Christian a sidewalk next to the main hiking trail through the dark forest and it was mystical - absolute peace, great light and much better to walk than all the stone stairs...
He told us and showed us a lot and he went into us and our “can” and trust... the sunrise had been an indescribable moment... we then crawled a bit over the pulpit and then also hiked back again through another forest - both times we had to hike part of the stone stairs, of course, but that was not so bad. To top it off, there was a small but delicious fresh breakfast at the hotel, which we all deserved.
Christian and the whole tour are 100% recommended...👍👍👍

Rock on - Highly recommend the sunrise hike!! Miss the queues and take full advantage of the rock in its glory..Allan and his puppy were fantastic hosts. Very knowledgeable and very welcoming. 10/10
