The DARSSBAHN, a charming little train, offers a delightful tour of Stralsund. Departing from the ferry bridge at the fish market, right in front of the harbor island, the journey lasts approximately 45 minutes. You’ll be enchanted by over 500 historic gabled houses, numerous churches and monasteries, and the maritime charm of Stralsund, complete with small canals, sailing boats, and fishing vessels around the harbor island. The tour begins by heading towards the Hansa-Gymnasium, passing Europe’s oldest harbor bar, and winding through the narrow streets of the old town. You’ll pass the Scheelehof, get a glimpse of the historic town hall facade on Külpstraße, and continue past the ponds, city fortifications, and ramparts towards the Neuer Markt. After a circuit there, the tour proceeds to the Heiliggeist Monastery and the Schwedenkai. Throughout the journey, you’ll hear numerous explanations of the city’s history in German.
