- Paulista Avenue - Avenida Paulista, Av. Paulista, São Paulo - SP, Brazil
Avenida Paulista is one of São Paulo’s most iconic landmarks. Opened in 1891 and initially lined with the homes of coffee barons, it has evolved into a bustling financial, cultural, and urban hub. Stretching nearly 3 km, Paulista is home to museums, cultural centers, shopping malls, restaurants, and modern architecture. It also serves as a venue for demonstrations, fairs, and popular events. Highlights include the MASP (with its free span), the National Conjunto, and mirrored buildings, all coexisting with street artists, cyclists, and residents who bring the avenue to life, especially on Sundays when it is pedestrian-only.

Batman Alley - Nestled in the alleys of the Vila Madalena neighborhood, Batman Alley is one of São Paulo’s most creative and colorful spots. This area is an open-air museum of urban art, with walls completely covered in graffiti that is constantly being updated. The name originated in the 1980s when a Batman drawing appeared on one of the walls. Since then, artists from Brazil and around the world have transformed the alley into a vibrant, democratic gallery. Besides visual arts, the area reflects the relaxed atmosphere of the region, surrounded by cafes, alternative shops, and bars, making it one of the city’s most “unprogrammable” spots. 40 minutes, free entry.

Monument to the Bandeiras - The Monument to the Flags, created by sculptor Victor Brecheret, is one of São Paulo’s most iconic works. Unveiled in 1953, it stands in front of Ibirapuera Park, in Plaza Armando de Salles Oliveira, next to the Legislative Assembly. The granite sculpture, approximately 50 meters long, depicts the bandeirantes, who were explorers of Brazil’s interior in the 17th and 18th centuries. The work represents a diverse group of people — Portuguese, indigenous, and African — pulling a stone canoe, symbolizing the collective effort in expeditions to the country’s interior, often driven by the quest for wealth and territorial expansion. The style and visual impact convey a sense of heroic effort, but today the monument also invites critical reflections on the violent and colonizing nature of these expeditions.

Obelisco do Ibirapuera - The Ibirapuera Obelisk is a 72-meter monument honoring the fighters of the Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932. Located in Ibirapuera Park, it also serves as a mausoleum. Designed by Galileo Ugo Emendabili, it is the largest obelisk in Brazil.

Liberdade - Liberdade is one of São Paulo’s most traditional and unique neighborhoods, renowned for its strong Japanese cultural influence and other Asian communities. As visitors walk or drive through its streets, they will notice the red lanterns, kanji signposts, and distinctive architecture that lend a special charm to the area. The neighborhood began as an arrival point for immigrants in the early 20th century and today is a hub of commerce, gastronomy, and cultural events, such as the famous Chinese New Year Festival. Despite its Eastern ambiance, Liberdade also preserves historic landmarks, including ancient churches and the old hanging cemetery, offering a unique blend of past and present.
