Starting from the historical Pile Gate, the erstwhile primary entrance to Dubrovnik, you’ll note its still-functioning drawbridge. This gate grants entrance to the expansive City Walls which stretch over 2 kilometers. Kept in prime condition, along these walls exist many towers, prominent among which is the Minceta Tower, the best-preserved fortification of the Mediterranean region.
You’ll also have the chance to walk down into Stradun Street, the city’s principal thoroughfare, leading to the majestic Onofrio’s Great Fountain, a 15th-century structure built to combat the harsh, arid summers. This fountain sits at the west entrance of Stari Grad, also known as Dubrovnik’s Old Town, one of the most ancient cities in Europe, recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
