Lovely morning outing - Very nice aquarium, a perfect morning outing with the kids. Very, very clean!!! Had lunch at the restaurant, was reasonably priced and they have a great kids menu and provide coloring pencils while you wait for the food.

Great Diving Experience in St Paul's Bay, Malta! - Just completed PADI Wreck and Deep Dive courses as well as 5 Guided Dives with Maltaqua in St Paul's Bay Malta and In Gozo!
I had left off diving in last 2 years just doing about 10 dives each year in warm water at Kita Kinabalu in Borneo and Paphos in Cyprus, very pleasant but undemanding at 15-20m, so needed tobrush up again. I had previously researched the best dive training facilities in Malta and had focused on Maltaqua, as it is long established, has a good reputation (from articles and reviews) and is large enough to cater for demand without being overwhelmed. A particular attraction is that they can also supply accomodation within less than 5 min walk from Dive Centre, 10 min walk from centre of St Paul's Bay. This accomodation also has s a wet room where you can wash and dry the dive gear, with the dive bus swingng by the apartment in the morning so no lonng hikes carrying gear,
Airport Pickup and transport to Dive Centr can also be easily arranged for €40 each way, which is better than a taxi.
So cutting to the chase everything turned out as planned!
No hassle with pickup at airport, accomodation ready on arrival and was also able to pick out and try on dive suit etc. so prepared to start diving the following morning. Dive gear was new and in very good condition as would be expected. Staff were all friendly, knowledgable and helpful, which is what you would like to expect should be the norm but often isn't.
The Maltaqua operation is very streamlined as a result of their experience - they have a filing system for Air and Nitrox at the Dive shop so there is no hassle with having fills as required and 15 litre tanks readily available. Nitox is an extra €4.5 a fill and well worth it.
The accomodation is excellent very clean and well maintained - showers immediately give hot water - a nice touch was that when I arrived in apt. there was a fresh loaf of bread, edam cheese slices and Tetley tea and milk already in the fridge.
Cleaner is also on site to ensure everything in good order.
The dive sites were excellent - at Cirkewwa about 25 min away there are 2 wrecks and an anchor at 30 - 38m as well as loads of shallower diving on walls closer to the shore. The wrecks themselves were maybe a 10 min swim from the shore. Toilets an showers on site as well as purpose parking and benches for dive equipment, as well as van selling drinks and food. In Gozo the wrecks were a bit closer to the shore but sea floor tilted down rapidly so at about 40m soon after leaving shore.
Visibility is excellent and well worth bringing a camera - examples of photos are on Instagram under Maltaqua.
The guided dives had about 4 divers and an instructor and were very relaxing as guides were very experienced and made sure everyone was relaxed and enjoying themselves.
In Malta wrecks are generally deepish so I did Deep Dive as well as Wreck Dive Padi courses. I was fourtunate enough to have 1:1 training from a very experiecned instructor (Serge) who also does Cave diving which is very demanding technically, so I benefitted from his depth of knowledge.
Practical issues with my diving were identified and I was able to rectify most and identify the ones which still needed to be worked on - so dropping from 9kg to 8kg weight, moving tank two fingers width lower on back , more agreessive use of BCD inflator at depth and of expelling air from lungs more sharply at shallower depth. Ones remaning were pace of breathing needing to be slower which linked to excessive use of fins and poor kick position - should ideally be frog kick or kick with fins up and not going below bodyline - the deep thigh kicks used for finning on surface are a disadvantage underwater.
I had done dives to 35m before on occasion but was always a bit cautious as these
dives were done as an ancillary patrt of another dive, so full focus was not on the depth itself, which was not the purpose of the dive. This time where depth was the aim it meant that your only focus was on rate of air consumption, buoyancy control, and planning NDL and monitoring it at Wreck. I had EANx qualification from earlier but hadn't dived EANx in 2 years, so revised notes in detail and was very confident about EANx theory and calculation of dive time, tables and gas analysis - % NOx was measured by me and tank labelled with name etc, all essential to avoid confusion with other cylinders.
Wrecks were penetrated safely and this was interesting - doing so confidenttly with an instructor was great!
I've dived around the world (200+ dives) incl. Sth Korea, Australia, France, New Zealand, Sth Africa, Sardinia, Thailand and Ireland - so you need to be able to make up your own mind when diving with a buddy you don't know as to what is safe and what is not, and be knowledgeable and confident enough to decide what is appropriate, so am now happy that I know what is correct!
Going from St Pauls to Valetta takes 40min in bus and costs €2, but is well worth a day trip - I s[ent half day doing Valetta (- full day better) and a day doing tourist trip to Gozo and Blue Lagoon at Camino.
I would go back and do other dives with Maltaqua and am considering doing Reacue Diver, but also want to dive Blue Lagoon area on Camino - I missed out on this dive as it clashed with a course dive, but the photos I saw were spectacular.
Most of the people on the Guided Dives had dived with Maltaqua beforre and were on 4 day or 7 day packages as these were great value.
Plenty of restaurants in St Paul's Bay, so food easy to find, but can easily cook for yourself in apartment.
Final word is I would go there again!

Lovely way to spend an afternoon & children will love it 💖 - Really enjoyed an afternoon at this aquarium it's very well laid out. The fish were amazing & lots of information @ them. Loved the sea horses & seeing a shark. There's a surprise "tide" near the end of the visit which was very good 😱 Afterwards you can visit the gift shop & cafe. Would highly recommend ❤️

Interesting and fun for everyone - We had a great time here. Lots of beautiful exhibits, interesting information on species and conservation and a fascinating jelly fish talk. Food was pricey but very tasty! Would definitely recommend.

Something for a cloudy day and a sunny day the out side bar. - Stumbled upon the aquarium having a walk around on a cloudy day. Didn’t plan to visit but when we got there thought why not. Reasonable prices. Think adult was €16 OAP was €13.
Was really surprised at how interactive it was. Lots of sea life to see but also a lot a facts around plastic in ocean that shocked me. There was even a ride at the end. Was a lively couple of hours spent when not planned. Restaurant and bar attached were well priced. Even came back the next day when it was sunny to use the out door bar as it was a lovely sun trap.
Service was really good as well so friendly.

More screens than fish tanks!! - We were disappointed by our visit to the Malta National Aquarium. While the building itself is modern and well-maintained, the experience felt overly digital and lacked the immersive, natural feel you expect from an aquarium. There were far too many screens and interactive displays, which made the visit feel more like a tech exhibit than a chance to connect with marine life.

Was not worth the wait - We arrived around 12:30 to a massive Que, which went into the carpark. Took 1.5hrs to get the tickets.
I looked online to buy but didn’t suggest we would be in any quicker.
Once we had the tickets we went and got lunch in the cafe. The menu is extended and has lots of choice.
Our eldest loves fish, so he was in his element, but the aquarium visit was the quickest part of the whole experience.

Don’t waste your money or time - Staff rude and useless have no customer service experience.
Bought tickets via trip advisor and added to wallet still had to wait forever for 2 staff members to process.
