A very worthwhile experience - Thankyou, KG, for your excellent tour of Johannesburg and Soweto today. We learned so much about these cities and your country, and appreciated the vast knowledge you shared with us. The best way we could have spent this morning on our limited time here.
While we felt great empathy for many of the people and situations, we also enjoyed the laughs along the way - especially as the Aussies had just finally beaten South Africa in 60 years at Eden Park!

William is a walking history book - Your tour guide William was absolutely brilliant and amazing! I absolutely got my money’s worth and SOOOO much information about South Africa. I suggest that he should make a podcast 😂But he deserves all the accolades and if you could, give that man a raise!

Great personalized tour of Jo’burg and Soweto - The driver & guide arrived on time. Greeted my group, and answered all questions that we had. We had a great time. Private tours are always preferred and this one was outstanding. Ali gave his personal perspective on many of the happenings in the city. We were pleased.

Half day in Johannesburg and Soweto - The guide was prepared, young, very empathetic. It took us through the history and stories of the city. Punctual and very clear in explanations, clear English even for non-English speakers

Great way to safely see Johannesburg - Interesting, informative and safe way to see Johannesburg. Our guide was lovely and we saw a lot. He also answered all our questions.
It would be better if we could enter the prison and go to the museum too.

Saw the stark differences between how people live - I did a half day tour of JoBerg and Soweto with Ali, who is a freelance tour guide arranged by the tour company. He picked me up right on time and I was the only person on the tour so I had lots of opportunities to ask questions. Ali was very good and shared a lot of interesting information about the sites we saw and -importantly- provided historical and political context to what we were seeing. Because he didn’t have an afternoon tour he took a little more time with me than I expected.
Ali made a point of showing me the different economic conditions in JoBerg/Soweto. We started out in the very upscale section of Houghton with its large homes with high walls and security cameras where the very wealthy live (we also stopped in front of the home where Nelson Mandela lived after he left the presidency). We then drove through a poorer area (Hillbrow) that is today an area of higher crime and unemployment before we went to Constitution Hill. We finished up in Soweto and i witnessed true poverty, with people living in houses made from sheet metal with no running water or electricity. It was quite eye opening, but it made the point Ali intended, which is the stark differences between how people live and led to a good discussion about why the govt couldn’t do more to help those most in need.
The reason I gave a four star review rather than five is because I didn’t feel like I had an opportunity to get more than a superficial look at most of the places we visited. For example, we went to Constitution Hill and Ali did a good job of explaining its history but we didn’t have time to tour it or even go into the Constitutional Court building. We didn’t have time to drive by the Apartheid Museum, although we did stop and walk around Soweto a little bit, particularly Nelson Mandela’s house that is now a museum (the admission to which was included in the cost of the tour). So perhaps I was expecting more than a half day tour can provide, especially with the drive time to and from Soweto.
I would still recommend the tour (and Ali as a tour guide) because I learned a lot but people considering the tour should recognize that most of the time is spent in the car.
