Excellent Private Tour of Puerto Plata, DR - I would absolutely recommend this private tour to anyone who wants something convenient and at the pace you need without the crowds.
This was our first family trip with my one year old son and my in laws who are in their 60s and 70s. This private tour took us everywhere we wanted to go and got us back to our ship on time. We went at a pace we could go given the toddler and elderly and we were provided bottled water. The driver and guide were fantastic and gave us so much knowledge of DR. We had a great experience.

We had an unforgettable private tour with Michel Transfers and Tours while visiting Puerto Plata, and we’re still talking about it! David and Willy were our guides for the day, and they were both absolutely fantastic—knowledgeable, fun, and just the right amount of adventurous.
Normally we like to rent a car, but I was really glad we let them do the driving this time.
They took us up into the mountains (yes, the actual mountains) to soak in some of the best views in the Dominican Republic. We’re talking postcard-perfect—like something you’d see on a screensaver and think, “That can’t be real.” Well, it was real—and David and Willy made sure we saw it from the best angles!
They were also friendly and easygoing, making the day feel less like a tour and more like a road trip with friends who happen to know all the scenic shortcuts (Willy kept calling us his “family” for the day - which was a nice touch. The vehicle was clean and comfortable, and the whole experience was smooth from start to finish—zero stress, all beauty.
If you’re heading to Puerto Plata and want something more personal, scenic, and fun than the usual group tour, don’t think twice—book with Michel Transfers and Tours. And if you get David and Willy, tell them their mountain buddies say hi!

No Rush, No Pressure: Pure Puerto Plata Perfection! - If you're looking for a stress-free and enjoyable tour of Puerto Plata, this is it! We opted for a semi-tailored experience taking us to the highlights of Puerto Plata with a local's perspective. We loved that our guide, Nelson, let us set the pace. There was absolutely no pressure to shop, which was a breath of fresh air. Lunch was amazing, and the entire day felt like a relaxed exploration with friends. The Neslon and our driver, David, were both incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We couldn't have asked for a better day!

Wonderful Puerta Plata tour. - We really enjoyed our private tour with Bolivar. He was so friendly and very knowledgeable. He made sure we got the best photos and experiences that fit our needs. He even made sure my husband had a ride through the gate when the tour was over because his legs were giving out on him. The text correspondences prior to our arrival were helpful and full of all the information I needed for the tour. I would highly recommend Michel tours and tour guide Bolivar. Our driver was also excellent, super nice, and safely got us where we needed to be (I wish I could remember his name).

Highly Recommend Michal's Private Puerto Plata Tours...with Eddy!! - Eddy was our driver and he was amazing!!! He answered every question we had regarding the history of the area between Cabarete and all through Puerto Plata in the 🇩🇴!!! His English is great and drives like a professional!!! He made our anniversary a special day we will never forget!! Michal's Tours staff contacted us from the beginning and ensured our day was exactly what we wanted!! Highly recommend they hire Eddy full time!!

A wonderful introduction to vibrant Puerto Plata - In addition to the key sights of the city, our excellent driver/guide, Roberto, introduced us to the various neighborhoods of Puerto Plata, customizing our time just as we requested. We spoke little Spanish, he spoke little English but we made excellent use of Google Translate and had a wonderful time!
During the walking portion of our tour, he even introduced us to a number of his friends we encountered along the way. A charming, gracious host who loves his city and his country! We couldn’t have asked for anything more!

A Great Tour with Anthony - We really enjoyed our tour of Puerto Plata with Anthony. We were originally scheduled to do this tour in December from Amber Cove cruise ship port, but our ship was not able to dock due to bad weather. I contacted the operator and asked if we could reschedule because we were going to be there about a month later on another cruise. They were more than happy to do so.
The only negative about the whole day was that the private tour operators are not allowed into the port. It was quite a walk to get to where Anthony was waiting for us. We found out when we returned to the port that a taxi will take you from the port gate to a drop off point at the entrance to the Amber Cove shopping area for $10. I am sure we could have taken a taxi to the tour pick up spot as well.
The van was comfortable and air-conditioned. We visited several spots in the historic city center of Puerto Plata on a walking tour of the area: a chocolate factory, the Amber Museum, the Umbrella Street, the Pink Street, the Central Plaza and the church. We then went to the fort and up to a spot for a panoramic view of the city. Our favorites were the Amber Museum and the panoramic view.
We then had a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. Anthony offered to take us to the beach, but we are beach people. We just enjoy a drive along the beach before heading back to the port -- where Anthony found a taxi driver to take us inside, as I met earlier.

Our guide, Marcelino, was... - Our guide, Marcelino, was amazing! He was very engergetic and excited to tell us about this city. My whole family loved this tour. Our driver, Anthony, was amazing as well. My elderly mother was not feeling too well and stayed in the van during a couple stops. Anthony stayed with her, keeping the air conditioning on so she would be comfortable. Marcelino and Anthony made this a wonderful experience!

Bad start, good finish - When you book a private tour, it should not require you to argue with the tour guide as to what spots you want to see and which to skip. We had to threaten to walk away before another driver took over our trip and honored our “no factory tours, no shopping” directions. Lots of heated phone calls, including as we were touring, but our new guide and driver stuck with the goal of making us happy and showing us more of the landscape and off the beaten track areas we requested. Kudos to Nelson and David for what turned out to be a great overview of the area. (Full disclosure that we found out afterwards was that the other driver was new to the company and not familiar with a private tour.)
