Spooky, historic and one for the memories! - My husband and I booked a ghost tour at Shepton Mallet as an activity during our mini moon week after our wedding. The tour was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The tour guide was great, very knowledgeable and made the experience spooky and unnerving. I felt popular in the upstairs room of the guard house when I felt a curl of hair get stroked by no one and then the overwhelming feeling of being followed as I tried to get down the stairs as quickly as possible. We now want to see all the haunted places in the UK thanks to Shepton Mallet!

A fascinating and great value experience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - We had a really interesting time visiting Shepton Mallet Prison for a guided tour. Our guide Jason was absolutely fantastic! Friendly, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable about the prison’s long and eerie history.
The tour itself was packed with fascinating facts and stories, and we loved that you’re free to roam the grounds until 5pm afterwards to explore at your own pace. It felt like great value for money and a unique experience overall.
We’re already planning to go back to try the ghost tours and escape rooms next time! Highly recommended for anyone interested in history, true crime, or just looking for something a bit different to do. 10/10

Fantastic guided tour - We were lucky to have a private tour experience, on Halloween day, as we were the only couple on the tour. Jeremy, our guide told us all the fascinating history of the prison. What a dark and interesting place! The best prison tour we have done. Steeped in history and with a very eerie feel but also some very sad stories. If you like history and also spooky vibes, highly recommend this. Also liked how empathic the guide was.

Outstanding tour by guide Jason - My Son treated me for my birthday and we had a guided tour with Jason whose knowledge about the history of the prison is phenomenal.
We were allowed to explore alone, and we felt a strange sensation in the night watchmen's room. Myself and Son were the only ones in there.
Throughout the tour we took various photos.
Upon driving home later that night my Son was flicking through the photos taken during the evening.
One particular photo stood out and it was not a photo we had taken.
It clearly shows a female coming out of the floor in a bizarre position.
As mentioned, my Son and I were the only people present in the night watchman's room.
We are baffled by this exposure and of how the photograph appeared on my Sons Iphone.

Excellent tour! - Incredible! We loved every minute. I am happy we went on the Halloween tour as there was a few.. surprises that kept us on our toes. The staff were so knowledgeable and entertaining. We are greatful for the effort they put into making it memorable. I think the only downside was there wasn't enough exploration time, we felt it was a tight squeeze having a look around but it was worth it for the stories and history we heard whilst touring. Thank you team! We will be back..

A night to remember…. - Wow, what an awesome experience. The lovely Esther guided us round the spooky prison by night. She set a great atmosphere and was very knowledgeable and helpful. There were some great jumps and frights along the way which added to the tense atmosphere. When Esther started to talk about Bob in the guard house something started playing with my hair and even turned and told my niece off! She swears it wasn’t her. The history of the place is amazing and crawling into the 400 year old cells was a bit terrifying but defo worth it. I also started to feel quite sick in the execution room and one of my nieces swears she heard a music box playing. Right at the end of the tour we heard what sounded like footsteps behind about 5 different people heard it but there was nothing there. Go and see for yourselves I promise you won’t be disappointed. Next visit an overnight stay in cell 8 and a paranormal ghost investigation to follow. Thanks Esther and team for a great night xx

Amazing Halloween Ghost Tour - I visited Shepton Mallet prison to do a Halloween ghost tour, and the experience was incredible. I’m not local to the area, and was visiting a friend so we decided it could be something fun to do… and it definitely was! The price is very reasonable, and our tour guide Jason was amazing. Very knowledgeable and friendly, made the experience even better! The Halloween aspect was fun, but still allowed you to explore the prison and learn the history. When I’m back in the area, I would definitely go back and do a day tour! Definitely recommend to anyone, really interesting and all staff were lovely!

Halloween ghost tour 2025 - Jason guided us around the prison, he was an excellent guide and we had a great time.
We will visit in the day time soon for more history about the place as this was more focused on the creepy aspect... and it was definitely creepy!
SMP is a very interesting place with a long, and surprisingly recent, history. The staff were lovely and welcoming too.

Excellent - We were so pleased we paid a little extra to get a guided tour of Shepton Mallet prison. Our guide was great with so much information and knowledge. The tour lasted a hour and a half and we didn’t feel like we were being rushed. The team seem to really enjoy giving everyone a good experience. Lots of effort goes into each event.
