Wat Rakhang, the Temple of the Bells, was constructed by Rama I towards the late 18th century. During its construction, a bell was discovered here, and the subsequent King Rama II relocated that bell to Wat Phra Kaew, which is nearly opposite Wat Rakhang across the river, and donated 5 new bells to the Temple. The theme of bells is prominent throughout this Temple.
