Rila National Park - s the largest national park in Bulgaria spanning an area of 810.46 km2.
It was established on 24 February 1992 to protect several ecosystems of national importance. Its altitude varies from 800m. to 2,925 m (9,596 ft) at Musala Peak, the highest summit in the Balkan Peninsula. There are 120 glacial lakes, including the prominent Seven Rila Lakes. Many rivers have their source in the national park.

9:40 AM: Arrival at Rila Monastery
Nestled in the Rila Mountains in southwestern Bulgaria, approximately a 1 hour and 30-minute drive from Sofia, lies the Rila Monastery, the largest emblem of Christianity in Bulgaria. Founded by the hermit St. Ivan Rilski in the early 10th century, this monastery is the most frequented cultural landmark in Bulgaria and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Following our journey into ancient history, we will head to “Montevino Boutique Winery” to savor the produce of this sacred mountain. Here, visitors can discover local grape varieties such as “Rubin” and “Shiroka Melnishka.” Our package includes a tasting of five different wines accompanied by a cheese platter! The winery offers breathtaking mountain views. Lunch is available at the winery but is not included in the package price.

Finally, we will visit the extraordinary Boyana Church, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Boyana Church is renowned for its stunning frescoes from 1259, which predate Giotto by 50 years, marking the pre-Renaissance era!
