Koprivshtitsa, a unique town, is situated approximately 110 km to the southeast of Sofia. The two-hour journey there winds through narrow valleys and skims the southern edges of the Balkan Mountains. Koprivshitsa provides an immersive insight into the Bulgarian Renaissance, showcased ideally through its 19th century homes. Their vibrant courtyards, enveloped by towering stone walls and gates, serve as a window into the past. The quirkiness of the town is further amplified by its winding, cobblestone streets and quaint stone fountains. Several of these historical homes have been converted into museums, each with a distinctive character reflecting the trade and family size of its original inhabitants. Travelling back to Sofia, the route will diverge to pass through the Strelcha valley, celebrated for its rose oil producing rose bushes, providing a breathtaking sight particularly in May and June.
