Highlights
  • St. Alexander Nevski Cathedral - This is the main cathedral of the city and one of the major tourist sites. The building is relatively new (“only” 120 years of age), but really impressive, typical example of neobyzantine orthodox style of architecture from the beginning of 20th century.
  • Saint Sofia Church - One of the most important archeological and historical sites in the city, the church that gave the name of today’s capital of Bulgaria. A place really important for Christianity for the entire Roman empire and later - Europe.
  • The Palace - National Art Gallery - The former King’s palace, today home of the national Art gallery and Ethnographical museum.
  • Ivan Vazov National Theater - One of the most beautiful buildings in Sofia. Perfect place for a group picture.
  • The Rotunda Church of St George - The oldest entirely preserved building in Sofia, surrounded by roman ruins and notorious communistic governmental buildings.
  • National Archeological Institute with Museum - BAS - The square between the President’s office and the building of the National archeology museum. The building has been build during the medieval times to serve as a mosque. This is easy to note by the typical ottoman medieval architecture style.
  • Serdika - Open-air archeological site, once - the most central point of the ancient roman city of Serdika. The place where both main streets crossed, and still do - 2000 years later.
  • Banya Bashi Mosque - The only still standing mosque of the city. 140 years ago, “it was a typicall small mislim ottoman town with narrow muddy streets, one-story high houses, and more than 35 mosques..”
  • Sofia History Museum - A beautiful building, built in the beginning of the 20-th century to serve as a public bath. Today it is home of the Sofia history museum. Just a step away from the natural hot water mineral springs. Who wants to taste the water?
  • Sofia Court House - Last stop of the tour. The impressive building, nowadays - the Court, with 2 big lions keeping in front. This is where tour ends - but where the modern city center starts - you will get recommendations for shopping, eating, free time etc.
