• Kampong Glam - Explore Kampong Glam. The history of Kampong Glam dates back to the 1820s when it was first named. The name is derived from the Malay language where ‘kampung’ means ‘village’ and ‘gelam’ refers to a type of tree known as the Paperbark tree that grew in the area and was commonly used for shipbuilding. For many years, Kampong Glam was a fishing village due to its location on the Rochor River. In the 1820s, Sir Stamford Raffles allocated Kampong Glam and an annual stipend to Sultan Hussain Mohammed Shah for the Muslim community after he signed a treaty ceding Singapore to the East India Company. The Sultan used these funds to construct a palace and relocate his entire family and entourage, reportedly over 600 people, to Kampong Glam. With these arrivals, in 1824 the Sultan decided to build a mosque that reflected his status and requested that the East India Company provide the necessary funds.
• Mount Faber Park - Explore Mount Faber. As one of the oldest parks in Singapore, Mount Faber Park is a popular tourist destination. From the peak of Mount Faber, visitors can see Sentosa Island and even the Indonesian Island Batam on clear days, enjoying the breathtaking view of the horizon from above.
• Merlion Park - Explore Merlion Park. One of the most famous representations of this iconic symbol is the statue located at Merlion Park—a picturesque spot near the mouth of the Singapore River. The Merlion’s fish-like body symbolizes Singapore’s origins as a fishing village, known as Temasek in Malay. The statue’s head represents the city’s original name of Singapura (lion city in Sanskrit). According to legend, Sang Nila Utama—a Srivijayan prince of Palembang—landed on these shores amidst a storm at sea. Near the mouth of the Singapore River, the prince saw a strange creature which he identified as a lion, thus giving Singapura its name.

Famous for its murals, trendy bars, and clothing shops, Haji Lane’s history begins in the 1800s when the houses served as lodges for Haji pilgrims. In the late 20th century, the houses became homes for impoverished Malay families. Today, Haji Lane has developed its own identity and attracts tourists from all over the world. Although the street is relatively small, the area has become a tourist attraction for those seeking more than just skyscrapers in Singapore.
