Wonderful sigiriya trip !! - Wonderful journey organized by jk tours. The communication was excellent from the day we booked to end of the tour. All the information was shared in advance so we could get cash ready for the entry and that was cheap compared to other places. Safari was amazing and superb. Many thanks to our jeep driver. Overall satisfied with service and the schedule. Great sigiriya tour with safari.

A well balanced day exploring Sri Lanka’s history and wildlife. - We booked this experience with Private Day Trip during our time in Sri Lanka, and it turned out to be a very enjoyable and well arranged day. Sigiriya stood out with its impressive setting and wide views from the top, while the cave temple offered a calm and cultural atmosphere. The national park safari added a different side to the day, with beautiful surroundings and the chance to see wildlife. Everything flowed smoothly, making it a great option for a short and fulfilling day.

Amazing with great views of the locations - Me and my friend came to Srilanka like a week ago. And honestly it was worth it and worth every penny. The safari was fun and the other locations were beautiful and fantastic.

Solo Exploration of Sigiriya and Safari. - I joined a tour with Private Day Trip, and it proved perfect for solo travel. Climbing Sigiriya Rock Fortress revealed breathtaking views, while exploring nearby caves offered a quiet and reflective experience. The national park safari Minneriya National Park allowed close encounters with elephants and birds. The itinerary was well-paced, informative, and ideal for experiencing both culture and wildlife alone.

Might not be worth the car time. - It’s a long way in the car. Safari is mainly elephants and birds. The Lion Rock is very nice and a good hike. Temple was okay. Driver was great, JK Travel was the sub-company and he was very nice.

Great day trip with stunning sights but be prepared for extra costs & a long day - Note: This is a long day as it’s about a 4-hour drive each way from Colombo.
DRIVER
Our driver, Indika, was excellent. We felt safe with him throughout the journey, and he handled ticket purchases smoothly at each stop, which made things very convenient.
ELEPHANT SAFARI
The itinerary listed Minneriya National Park, but we actually visited Hurulu Eco Park. It was still a great experience, but worth noting the difference.
The jeep driver was very skilled (especially impressive as he was driving a manual jeep). He got us as close to the elephants as safely possible, and we always felt secure. We also spent around 20 minutes at a viewpoint with beautiful scenery, where we could even hear elephants in the distance. At the end of the safari, we were given fresh watermelon juice which is not usually my preference (due to the bits), but it was a thoughtful touch.
SIGIRIYA LION ROCK
This ancient rock fortress dates back to the reign of King Kasyapa (477–495 AD), who chose it as his capital.
Climbing Sigiriya is no joke, especially in the heat! Make sure you have comfortable shoes, plenty of water, and good stamina. My group nearly gave up with about 300 steps to go, as we were exhausted and felt we had already seen plenty. However, encouragement from other travellers pushed us to continue, and I’m very glad we did. At the top, you can see the layout of the ancient palace, including areas like the swimming pool and dancing hall.
If you can make it to the top, it’s definitely worth it, but if not, don’t be too hard on yourself. The final stretch can feel quite intimidating, so it helps to keep your eyes forward rather than looking down.
Important note: One downside was an uncomfortable encounter with a worker at Sigiriya who followed us and insisted on helping. He implied his services were included in our ticket (USD $35), so we accepted his help with photos and guidance. However, at the end he repeatedly demanded a tip, which caught us off guard. Our driver later confirmed this behaviour was not allowed. Just be cautious if someone approaches you offering unsolicited assistance.
DAMBULLA CAVE TEMPLE
This was our final stop, and by this point we were quite tired, but it was still worth visiting. There are a fair number of steps (though fewer than Sigiriya), with rest points along the way.
The site is impressive and the cave temples were inhabited by Buddhist monks since the 3rd century BCE. Inside are multiple rooms filled with Buddha statues. If you’re not familiar with Buddhism, it may feel somewhat repetitive, but it’s still a peaceful and interesting experience.
As with all temples, you’ll need to remove your shoes and hat, and ensure your knees and shoulders are covered.
OVERALL
This was a great day trip organised by JK Tours Sri Lanka. One important thing to note is that the TripAdvisor price only covers the private car (with driver) and a bottle of water; entrance fees are not included. I would recommend contacting the organiser in advance (via email or WhatsApp) to arrange entrance tickets ahead of time for a smoother experience.
Also, lunch is not included. We ended up eating at the end of the day at a random local spot, so it’s worth planning for that in advance.

Day trip to Sigiriya and Elephant safari - This was a good trip but a very, very long day. Too much driving. We loved the safari, although extremely bumpy, we managed to find 10 elephants ( three families with newborn calves) This was amazing to see so close up.
Sigiriya was also amazing and the view at the top spectacular. Sooo many steps so only for the fit people. The grounds around the base were just as beautiful. We didn’t get to the cave as it was a long day. We would recommend staying overnight in this area and doing the trip over two days. Great driver

Unsafe Driving and Misleading Tour Pricing - The destinations on this tour were good, particularly the safari and temple, however the overall experience was extremely disappointing.
The itinerary is far too crammed for a day trip from Colombo. Even without climbing Sigiriya, which takes around two hours on its own, the day still ran from 7:30am until after 7pm. Our driver admitted he needed to speed to fit everything into the schedule.
Unfortunately, the driving was some of the most dangerous I have ever experienced. At one point the driver decided to drag race a Toyota Prius ( yes this is true!) on the tollway and reached nearly 150kph in a 100kph zone. We had to demand he slow down. The entire journey felt unsafe, with constant blind overtaking, aggressive driving, and several near misses with trucks and buses. At times we were genuinely terrified.
The tour also felt misleading in terms of pricing. We paid around 200 AUD for the tour, only to later find out that almost none of the activities were included. Just days before departure we were informed that entry fees and activities would cost close to another 200 AUD. This should have been made clear in the advertising from the beginning.
While the locations themselves were worthwhile, the unsafe driving, unrealistic schedule, and hidden costs completely ruined the experience.
I could not recommend this company or tour to anyone.

Underwhelming experience... - In short - AVOID.
The entire day experience was ruined at first experience - the safari tour.
They say in the description they will take you to Minneriya National Park but then they take you to Hurulu Eco Park because they claim you'll see 'more elephants'. That is a lie - they take 29500 LKRs off you for the experience when the Eco Park is a fraction of the ticket price for the actual national park described in the description.
They are effectively trying to skim the difference whilst leaving you in a very underwhelming Eco Park - we complained straight away and to Viator's credit it got sorted very quickly - the tour operator may respond saying they 'fixed the problem' - again, this is factually incorrect, action was only taken after we sorted the issue out.
This made the rest of the day awkward and uncomfortable bearing in mind it is a 10-12 hour day...
Our private driver was nice - and we honestly think he didn't know what happened at all. The other two stops were great and Sigiriya is worth the hike - however, we had to skip lunch to make up for the lost time due to the aforementioned safari issue that should never have been an issue.
All in all, we were disappointed from the get go and the back end of the trip did not make up for it.
