Everyone recommended - Very friendly family. Started with a tour of the garden where they take out all the vegetables and herbs.
The food was weekly where fantastic! Super nice in a group the different dishes made.

Very nice and tasty experience! Recommended! - It was a very nice cooking course with a very friendly family. First a tour was given in our own garden where all products are grown, after which we started cooking. This started easily with some onion peeling, but then we were increasingly challenged with making the dishes. They use mortars, open fires and the like, so you cook very differently than at home. The result was very tasty, our best food here so far!
All in all a very nice and tasty experience and definitely recommended for when you are in the area of Sigirya!

Such a great experience. Would love to go back and do it again - Can’t recommend Kumara and Thanuja’s organic cooking class enough!! We were a family of four including two apprehensive teenagers, but we were all allocated tasks and our kids got right into it ❤️
Such a lovely experience seeing their gardens, having a chat, learning about Ayurvedic use of herbs and spices and cooking over fire in traditional way. The food tastes better than anything you’ve ever eaten before. In the food you can taste the hearts and the souls of this beautiful family, their ethos and belief of kindness and generosity.
Warning: Please be aware when booking that there is a lot of corruption and competition for paying tourists and there are many locals trying to disrupt visits to Kumaras and Thanujas organic gardens. Everyone wants a cut, and they will try to send you elsewhere by telling you they know somewhere better (BS- they want to send you where they get their commission) Don’t support the corruption. Book direct with Kumara on his WhatsApp number +94 77 571 6119, give your driver the address and don’t accept being taken somewhere else. Kumara’s garden is the only organic garden in Sigiriya, the other 40+ “cooking classes” that have popped up to get their hands on a tourist dollar are not the real deal.
If you want to have an amazing experience, eat the best food you’ve ever eaten and support a beautiful family, you won’t want to miss visiting these guys when in Sri Lanka. ❤️

A must do in Sigiriya - Everything you cook is harvest around the house, all natural. You start with a garden trip explaining all the plants they have.
The class is inside the house, in the same kitchen they use every day. Wood stove, plenty on fruits and vegs.
A truly delightful and suggested experience

Kumara and Thanuja are incredibly warm hosts, show us the garden, explain all the ingredients and cook with us 3different curries, lentil daal, many delicious side dishes and still dessert. All food is incredibly delicious. Everything is organic, vegan and cooked according to Ayurveda. One of the best Things to do in Sri Lanka.

Amazing! - A great experience! The owner first shows you around the herb garden and knows something about each plant. Afterwards, you will be taken step by step into making 11 different, traditional Sri Lankan dishes. The people are very welcoming and sweet. Really recommended to literally taste some of the culture!

An absolute must do experience in Sri Lanka - Such an incredible experience! Kumara, Thanuja and their family are sooooo lovely and it was an absolute pleasure exploring their garden and learning to cook their family recipes.
We made four amazing curries (dahl, okra, pumpkin and eggplant curries) as well as coconut roti, string hoppers, coconut sambol, chilli sambol, papadums and a delicious dessert. It was easily the best meal I’ve had in Sri Lanka 🙌🏼💯 if you’re in (or near) Sigiriya, this experience is an absolutely must. You will not regret it!!
Thank you Thanuja and Kumara for such a wonderful and authentic experience 🩷🙏 We can’t wait to get home and recreate the amazing recipes you taught us!

Culinary journey - Participating in this cooking class was an unforgettable experience! The family who hosted us were not only incredibly kind, but also passionate about their garden. They guided us through each step, sharing anecdotes and knowledge about each vegetable. It was not only a cooking lesson, but also an immersion in local culture and nature. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who not only wants to learn how to cook, but also how to appreciate and respect the ingredients they use.
